Hi All, I’m on the brink of purchasing a 98 vette with 54K, but the one issue holding me back is a constant service message telling me I need to service my tires (there is also no psi reading displayed). The dealer claims this is a result of the tire pressure sensor not working properly on OEM tires, but he can’t promise me that replacing the tires will fix the problem. I also noticed a bit of steering wheel shaking above 70 mph (looked like I was waving to people as a accelerated past them :)).

Any feedback before I walk away from buying an amazing looking black on black C5 for only $21K? Thanks! ;help

HI there,
Well, no, I dont think that the tires are the issue.
Unless you have the Goodyear F1-steel, the tires would not be causing the issue.
I would suggest checking the transmitters for correct function. If the transmitters work, then you know that the receiver is NOT part of the problem, and the sensors may just need to be programmed.

Thanks c4c5 - Based on your comments, it doesn't sound like the problem will have an impact on the drivability or safety of the car. In the worst case scenario, are replacing sensors a big costly job?

Thanks again.

HI there,
No, not a big job. Each sensor is about $126 list at the last check.
4 tires, so it would be a good chunk of money, however, to have all 4 go bad, I doubt it.

Thanks for the insight! I gotta say that I walked from the deal because the 98 didn't have the active handling package and I heard that's a must have (especally in rainy Washington). I am now on the prowl for a 98 or higher 6spd w/ less than 60K mi. You sellin'? :) :Steer
