I just got back from the muffler shop because I hoped my exhaust leak was something other than a broken manifold...wrong......It appears that the 82 Crossfires are notorious for leaking between the two center exhaust ports.
Does any have a source or recommdation for new (2) exhaust manifolds.
Thanks,

try www.contemporarycorvette.com I am sure they will have them.BTW 1982 is the only year for that manifold! 1981 is very similar but the outlets are smaller.Don't even try to find new ones, they don't exist!

Dave

Thanks Burglar, I looked them up and they list the manifold as 81-82 as if they are the same?? I will give them a call tomorrow.
I think I might look into repairing mine.

My buddy who works on vettes on the side has welded many of these back into shape.I assure you that 81 and 82 are different.BTW my buddy just picked up a set of those a couple of weeks ago for $200.He said they are like new.I told him he must have stole them for that price!Good Luck,cruzer82.Let me know how you make out.

Dave

Bob- the 81-82 manifolds are not cast iron ones as on your 77.They are actually a tubular header type manifold, stainless composition.I do not think you could "shave " this type of manifold.

Dave

so how do you tell 81 from 82 if your looking through the swap meet?

difference between 81-82 exh manifolds

Silver80- The 1981 manifolds have a 2" outlet. The 1982 manifolds have a 2.5".Also,I believe the emission pipes have slightly different configuration.

Dave

I have seen several successful weld repairs made to steel and stainless steel manifolds. A talented MIG or TIG welder should be able to fix you up for a few bucks. The PIA job is getting it off to repair.

thanks burglar, I'm going to fall jefferson swap meet and hope to get a set of 82s
to put on the ZZ4.

Silver 80- Good idea.Someone else here did the same thing. They workout great for emission regulations.Good Luck.I think I saw a set of those in Carlisle last month.

Dave

Hey......If you two find a set of 82's you had better find a set for me. I'm the one who needs them.....actually I think I will try to get mine repaired first. I'll let you know how it come out.

Cruzer82-If you get in a real bind I will check to see if my buddy will part with his set.But I wouldn't make any promises knowing what he went through to get them.Did you try Contemporary?I might be going to Fall Carlisle next Saturday,I could nose around up there.

Dave

My bud at the muffler shop seems to think it won't be a problem fixing mine. He said it would take about 2-3 hours (~$200). My only concern is that we get them off and find out that they are to far gone, then I,m dead meat until I get other ones. I did see a pair at Contempory Corvette (used) for $100 ea. which isn't too bad if they are that hard to get. Maybe I shouldn't give away where they are.............

If you plan on keeping the car,you might want to locate and purchase a pair and stash them away, even if you get the other ones repaired.I have done that with my 81 on several hard to find parts.

Dave

I agree with you Burglar, there's an old saying that is very true that goes "A man with a spare dosn't have a care".
I am stocking my reserve right now. I just picked up new front and rear rotors, a new fuel pump/sending unit assembly, power antenna, etc.
When I bought the car about two months ago, the owner gave me the orginal Goodyear GT+4 tires which he had stored since it was new. I was suprised that they are in great condition and if I sell the car I will put them back on.

You might want to check Ebay for 1982 exhaust manifolds. I picked up a pair that were like new for $115. BTW - The 1980 Caifornia Corvettes with the 305 & Computer used 2" tubular steel exhaust manifolds. The 1981 used the same 2" version and the 1982 was the only year for the 2 1/2" dumps. If I'm not mistaken the 1984 had similar 2 1/2" dump tubular manifolds but they were slightly longer which would make your front y-pipe hang dangerously low. Just be careful to specify 1982.

It sounds like I could use the 84 manifolds if I had no other choice, and have the muffler shop raise the system up to where it belongs.
Thanks
