Has anyone installed their digital dash panel set? OK I know it's not the stock look, but neither is my whole look.

Thank You, New did not know this was discussed before. I guess I am feeling a liitle lucky (so far) I started this morning, I bought the 7 gauge set, 5 center and speedo/tach. They also sent 2 senders 1-oil temp and 1-water. 2 smoked lenses. I use the factory fuel, oil presure, volts is volts. Got the 5 gauge cluster in my origianl 5 gauge bezel with no problems (they eliminated the clock) and the speedo/tach in the housing good. Have all gauges working but speedo. I have a 79 cable driven (this was my real question) but the wiring diagram indicates that there is a speedo sensor, sensor and cable both? or do I need the optional cable speed to elec pulse piece @ $59.00. More simply put, does a 79 have a useable sensor/sender to avoid the extra part, even though it is obviosly cable driven???? I paid 399.00 for the seven gauges, 5 center and 2 speedo/tach, THUSFAR I am actully very happy, the whole thing went easier then I expected, and they look great, but as of now, no speedo operation the other 6 are good.

if the speedo is electronic you will need the sensor, most have a short cable that goes where the old speedometer cable connects in the trans tailshaft which turns the sensor. you then wire the sensor to the speedo.
modern cars have this sensor instead of a cable.

The speedo is without question all electronic, That is why I think I need the optional cable in, to electronic conversion out. I cannot get the speedo to work regardless of which lead I take from the the speego/tach cluster. Took the tach direct off the neg side of the coil. I think I'll have to order that at 60 bucks, then I can button it up. I replaced the dash, so this seemed like the best time to do this. I am not a big fan of the printed original circut panels and the Florida heat.

If your origional had a cable to the trans then you will need the converter.
post a picture of that "peacock blue"

Forgot about this on other thread - speedo sensor:

Yeah, they make an electronic sender adapter thingy. It's expected you put it on then attach the manual cable at the end. Why you'd want this, I don't know... Anyhow the mechanical speedo piggybacked on the electronic one didn't fit in the tunnel on my '75 so you just put on the new sensor and leave the old mechanic cable disconnected or remove it altogether which I did when I put in the new engine.

I had a tranny shop install mine while they were rebuilding my T400 and also had them tap a good hole for a tran temp sender in the main case on the other side (tranny pan mounted ones, even with a welded on backing stud are really leak prone and easily hit by road junk.) I'm glad I did because my speedo sender doesn't seem all that solidly connected, although it sends fine and the puppy hasn't leaked (from there :) ). If I had put it on I would have thought I had a problem.

Does the one for your '79 have an oil temp sender in the middle panel like mine? If so, did you run the sender to the oil pan? I didn't on mine until I changed to the new 7 qt thing on the next engine. I didn't really like how low I placed the sensor (opposite corner from the drain plug) and really need to make a skid plate of some kind for the whole pan, but it hasn't leaked yet.

My lower left gauge, the one were the clock was is oil temp. oil pressure is in the middle, voltage lower right. Here my one problem, I am getting erratic oil pressure readings. I used the oil presure tap directly behind the dist. on the block above the flywheel. I thinl I am getting interference from the high voltage in the dist. I tried shilding the wire, but it's just to close to the dist. Where is another location for the oil presure sended. I thought it was somewhere on the lower block drivers side. Any help????? Thanks

That's the standard location....might be others..

The Nordskog sender has a seperate ground wire, but I used other senders first and never had this problem. Do you have a noise filter on your ignition power wire? I put on the one MSD recommended (or maybe Mallory - it had that for a while) and a large blue capacitor dealy on one of the main positive wires to the alternator (a J.C. Whitney type stereo accessory thing...). Now that you mention it, I have been a little surprised I have never had any electronic noise in displays or radio - sorta used to that in all the other old cars I "bubbaized" :) (Who needs a tach when you have a "radio speaker tach"?)

My current ignition is an MSD6AL with Pro Billet Distributor and seperate Blaster II High Vibration Coil, mounted next to the passenger latch and heater box on a protrusion I believe was where the wiper door system mounted on earlier models. The wires are all new MSD spiral cores and the plugs are non-resistor NKG7's.

Is your sender lead attachment a ring type or a slip on spade type (like factory)? These are notorious for developing slack right at the connector or even falling off - but they are convenient to connect and disconnect (my water temp sender used to do that a lot...so I changed it to the Nordskog one which uses a ring and nut.)

Can you snap a photo of your dash with the new gauges in place? I've thought about doing this in mine, but wasn't sure how it would look.

Thanks!

No problem, probably a week or so, putting in new dash, some switchs, A/C vents, the digital gauges, and a C/D and changer. I went red LED, there is also green and amber, very bright (has an optional dimming wire) concise read out. They are eye turners. 0-200 mph speedo with 1/4 miles times and 0-60 times etc. that feature has nothing to do with getting it, but may mean something to somebody. You can and shold calibrate it for different rear ends, tire size etc.

I try to send a pic, but it says it's over 83k bytes, I use the lowest res mode on a 4.0 m.p. camera, and it still far exceeds the parameters. Any ideas to help?
