The week before last my gas gauge suddenly dropped to zero. Stopped at the Chevy dealer near work, the said they would take a look and let me know. The result was it needed to be reprogrammed, total cost $200. Again this Friday the same thing happened. This time it needed a new sensor total cost $630, but they gave me credit for the two hours of labor they had spent the prior week. I guess that was a good deal. Why am I telling you this? My advice, get the extended warrantee. My car is now four years old with 34K miles and is not eligible. If I had the warrantee, it would have been covered.
So if you can get that extended warrantee!
Tom

Tom, sorry to hear about your luck. As a general rule, with the increasing level of complexity of cars these days, not getting an extended warranty is hard to justify. If you live in an area where labor rates are high (such as where I live), one complex repair will justify the entire cost of the Extended Warranty.

You can say that again. But if my experience can save someone else from the same problem then I'd be a happy camper.

I got an extended warranty on my C5. I got a bumper to bumper warranty with 0 deductable 7 years/100,000 miles. It started when i bought the Vette in 2001, so it is good until 2008. And in case you are wondering it is 100,000 miles from when I had the car, not 100,000 miles on the odometer. I got my C5 used with 32,000, so it is good until 132,000. Not bad for $1,500. I just take it to my dealer they call for approval and it is done. It has already paid for itself. I had the alt replaced, fuel sender replaced, and a few sensors.

From whom did you get the warrantee? That sound like a great deal.
Thanks
Tom

That is a good deal, did you get it though GM or outside. Can you email me and let me know. shopman1@hotmail.com thanks - shopman1

With the complexity of today's automobiles, I'm a believer in extended warranties for my vehicles......it can often pay for itself the 1st time you have to go in for a problem.

Other extended warranties, though, I don't bother with.

Just for info - in spite of claims by several dealers that their net deals are the best, I found (based on the recommnedaton from the consumer publication Washington Checkbook) that Ourisman Wheaton Chevrolet in Wheaton Maryland had the best price for GMPP. Its not that the net prices were bad, its just that Wheaton Chevrolet was at $25.00 over cost. The best net deal was $50-$100 over cost. The person I dealt with was Latoya Gardner.

If you're still in the market try 1Source at www.1sourceautowarranty.com. I had them on my 99 Coupe and I'm getting one on my 04 CE. They pay with a company credit card and you can take it to the mechanic of your choice. I had to have a wheel hub replaced on the 99 and they were able to get the part cheaper than my mechanic could he was very impressed.

My warranty is not from GM because i got a better deal. My warranty is from Auto Select One. I have not had any problems with them at all. They have paid for the repairs every time I had to take my Vette in with ZERO coming out of my pocket.
