Fail safe thermostats

These are the thermostats which fail open instead of closed. I put one in my 'vette about 3 of 4 months ago and now it has failed open. I believe it was a "Murray"

I really like the idea, but I'm debating whether or not I'll give it a second chance. A 3 mo service life is pretty pathetic, but I've also seen regular thermostats fail out of the box.

Does anyone else have any experience with these fail safe stats? Anybody know of any other brands and where to buy?

A little research shows that the Murray is a MotoRad; it says so on the package. It is also $7.50 at O'Reilly as opposed to the $10.99 for the official MotoRad packaged one from AutoZone.


I'm going to give it another try, but if it locks open without my engine overheating, I'm done with them.
