I am going to look at a 1993 Corvette w/90000 miles (asking 8000), later today and I just printed out the carfax for it which states that the car has failed the emmissions inspection 4 times from 2002 thru 2004? Now where I live I do not have to take my cars thru an E-check but should this be a warning for engine trouble? And is this a fair price?

I would certainly ask the owner what mods have been done to the engine and then go from there.

Price sounds a tad low for a good car.

Maybe more than a tad.

Does the owner have the last test? Those numbers will help us diagnose the problems the car may have. It could be a simple (cheap) EGR, O2 sensor or more expensive pia like Cat converters.

Thanks for the input guys, But I just got back from looking at the car and I would say passing the emmissions test would be the least of my worries with this vehicle. The paint was bad all over, the seats were trash and the steering wheel was tore up. I didnt even ask him to start it. It is funny how the owner didnt mention those little things when I called him about the car.
The search continues.....

rmtsteve, before I even go look at I car I ask very detailed questions, conditons of paint any nicks or scratches. Conditon of leather, any rips tears or dicoloration curb rash on the wheels, etc. I try to get an accurate description of the car before I drive. There is alot of junk out there and I dont want to waste my time. If someone doesnt answer, I move on there are plenty of cars to look at you just cant be in a rush.. Good Luck..Ray

Just be patiant, ther are some good cars out there and I know you will find one..

Funny thing was I did call and ask about the car & the owners reply when I ask about the paint was that it was in great shape(I meant present, He meant when it was new). I ask him what was wrong with the car and he said the drivers seat was wore a little and the rest was fine. I know I am not looking for the perfect vette, just the perfect first vette that I can drive daily and not cry a week over if I get a rock chip in it. That car will be for later on when I buy the new one during my mid-life crisis.
