Fake "Aged" Tank Build Sheets?

Got some time to kill, look at the feedback. Several buyers have multiple purchases of it. One in particular "hedgevette" has his own ebay restoration service for purchase on ebay for 40K. I doubt that these buyers are purchasing multiple copies for "novelty" purposes only.

Many people use the quote " money is the root of all evil ", actually the quote is " the LOVE of money is the root of all evil ". But none of that applies because this is just for FUN.

Alan

As my dad so often says, "Jesse James used a gun".

$200 is outrageous! I imagine some tearing/burning is part of the process and tea bags, as for the printing, I guess he has an old dot matrix printer.

This is just plain wrong. But I went a looked at his seller history and ..... people are actually buying this stuff. For what purpose? Other then to fool someone when you sell a car or at a car show for display? "Oh look the original build sheet found on the gas tank!!!!".

Beside the price is this more wrong then putting new NOS weatherstrips on your early C3 with the NOS yellow glue and original like with glue all over the place? Isn't this what the NRCS is all about?

Peer 81- it makes all the difference in the world.

If you replace a part with a NOS or a high quality reproduction you are upgrading the car and any buyer who looks at the car knows it has been"restored". I am sure they don't look at the NOS weatherstrip and say "It is amazing that that weatherstrip looks brand new after 40 years and 150,000 miles." There is no attempt to deceive when a car is restored.

If you get a fake tank sticker, restamp an engine block, wash a salvage title and do various other underhanded things to make someone believe they are looking at something. That constitutes fraud and is criminal in my eyes and in the eyes of the law. I find it hard to believe that people will pay $200 for a novelty Tank Sticker. If that is the true intent stamp Novelty Item across it and see how many are sold.

The intent here is obvious to make someone believe that they are looking at proof that a car is the real thing, that is dishonest and is stealing.

You're right! I forgot the important difference that the NCRS keeps it looking original but with new products that also look new and this thing is made to believe looking old. Thanks,

Groeten Peter

:boogie

That is funny! I've never heard NRCS described that way. I don't think that is what the NRCS is all about but the comparison is hilarious.

Peer81- for your post's description, you might as well call NRCS automotive re-enactors....

FWIW- I'm just now getting over three days with a 102 degree fever and I needed a good laugh.... THANKS!

Not to hijack the post, but I'm always intrigued when someone starts bashing the NCRS for doing exactly what their name states- and what all of us do ourselves to our own cars at one time or another.

The 'R' in NCRS is for 'Restore'. It's not an 'O' for 'Original'. It's not a bunch of guys fixing up old cars then fooling themselves and others into believing that the cars are miraculously untouched virgins that have survived 30-40-50 years without a fingerprint or a scratch.

Similarly, every time one of us fixes something on our cars by returning it to it's former status we are 'restoring' it.

The NCRS simply came up with a standardized method of evaluating how well a given car had been restored. At the same time it attempts to detect and 'punish' attempts to deceive or commit fraud.

What's wrong with that? :confused

I want one of those! But I want all of my not quite stock stuff written in as RPO.

I bet I could convince a few that the 383 is stock with that as proof.

My neighbor makes name plates, I'm going to ask him if he can make one up for my shift plate on the center console with the ZZ383 stats on it.

This could be one rare L48 car when I'm done!
