It seems since I got my C5, challanges happen daily. Is it the "fastest gun in town" thing? Do you guys have this happen? Do people think "there is a Vette I bet I'm faster"? From trucks, SUVs, and imports I often get people at the stop lights that want to race. Most of the time I just look at theirs and think "racing you would be a waste of gas". Once in a while. I embarrass them and show them how fast this car can be. I'm not saying that my car is faster than anything around here, but it can move quickly! It also quickly puts a smile on my face!

Not only do they want to race; they tailgate, cut you off, ride your bumber, etc. We attract so many "other" drivers!

Not really , They only pull up to the side or all the way past . I wish I could have some fun . Only one time some teenage girl was tailgating , then she tried to pass I let her get to my side than blew her away , than she tried again . I don't think she was playing though .

Whenever I drive my car, it happens. Here's my reasoning....

Corvette power and performance is a mystery to most people who aren't car guys or don't actually have one. You can't just go test drive a Corvette like you can any other car......and for that, people just don't know. They think it's an old man's cruiser.;shrug Little do they know, it's one of the best performing cars [stock] on the planet.....let alone for under $100K. My most frequent offenders are Mustang drivers.:eyerole
I mean, come on...really....what do they expect?

Do what I do......I either look at them and laugh or jump on it one good time and give them a dose of reality!:bu

Hey guys I will admit that I have chased down another corvette just to hear the beautiful sound and hopefully get the guy to give me a little blip on the throttle. I just like seeing and hearing other corvettes other than mine. I think a lot of people are like that too, they know what kind of car it is and they just want to see it go.

"under $100K" ?????

In most cases under $50K brand new!!!

and that's a bargain.

I don't think you caught what I was saying. I was saying that the Corvette is, by far, one of the best performing stock cars under $100K. It can also be easily categorized as one of the best performing cars [stock] on the planet, too. Under $100K, it's in the top 3 or 4. In the world, it's in the top 15 or 20.

By "stock" I mean "direct from showroom floor." Whether it's standard or massaged by the factory-in-house tuner (e.g. AMG, SVT, etc.).

I get your point. It is however difficult to convey that point across to SOME folks- that, for under $50K your getting an exceptional value for the money AND comparable to $100K sportscars. It's all relative though- Vettes are my enjoyment , so the price tag is reasonable to me to one day have a late model Vette.

thanks for your analysis.

I agree. These are amazing cars but because of the low price, it doesn't receive the respect it deserves. It has the prestige because of the name but as far as performance, people just don't know what it's capable of. Maybe one day.........

VAmagred01:

I hear you. What amazes me, IMO, is that the Corvette - in the eyes of the Europeans, and that is critics, car enthusists, press and the like, see this sportscar as nothing more than a mass produced cheap American sportscar. I think the C5 has raise SOME eyebrows. BUT, if its not Italian or German made AND handbuilt it is NOT in their league. What one does not take in consideration is that to some degree they are two different animals from TWO different continents. Thus each car has a certain amount of capability to their own environment engineered into it. So for the Corvette, and justfully so, it has a lot more muscle given the wide open spaces we have here in the US.

One other thing, and I don't proclaim to be an expert on foreign cars (I only own American), is that the upkeep- tuneups for the engine and suspension and so forth are critical to their performance, whereas the Vette is pretty much "plug and Play".
I happen to like that and everthing the Corvette is... IMHO.

Nothing more makes me mad when someone tries to race -or- rides my bumper. Yes I have a pretty expensive car for my age, and now that ill be selling it for a Vette next summer, im more nervous. but I dont race, too many things can go wrong in town where they choose to try and go up against me. Ive seen to many races in town happen that almost resulted in crashes or a pedestrian crossing the street. Another thing is tail-gating ... I never go under the posted speed limit unless for bumps, huge dips, and rough rail-road tracks. But I always seem to draw some people to my bumper. I tap the brakes one twice, not enough to slow down the car the tiniest bit. Some of them understand I dont want them on my bumper and slow down. THen there is mr/ms/mrs impatient ....then this usually results in I wont even touch the gas pedel until the person backs off... I have gotten down to 7 mph on a 35 mph road before before they got the hint. Theres something about wanting the OE bumper on your car till either you die or you sell it...

No kidding, I cant stand that Fast & the Furious crap ...ive got people flying by me at high close-in rates of speed just missing my bumper .... although its just a Camaro SS ... I would hate to see what people would do if its a vette. In my town there arent many Camaro SS's or C5 Vettes floating around.. so they get their fair share of looks & hollars... ive pulled up to some corvettes and just gave them the thumbs up, beautiful cars, cant wait to get my Vette next summer. I think ill be the closest to heaven then. ;)

My absolute favorite.. at a stoplight, someone beside you is
checking out your car and revving his engine like he is really ready to go for it. When the light turns yellow, I bring the revs up to about 4000 like I am really going to drop the hammer and smoke em. Then when the light changes, I just relax and let the guy do a burnout while I casually motor along.
;LOL Maybe about the time he hits third gear, he realizes that nobody is racing, and he is going way too fast for city streets.
If you want to run it... take it to the track
;)

One morning when going to work (about 5:00am) a camaro ss pulled up beside me and was goosing his car beside me. My impression was that he had been out all night with his girlfriend and was going to impress her by blowing the doors off of a vette. I did the only honorable thing a guy can do for another guy trying to impress his girl. I ignored him. I just know as he sped away that he was telling her that I was too chicken to race him because I musta known that I had no chance. I just smiled at myself knowing I helped him to secure his girlfriends admiration. If I ever see them again, maybe I will ask the dude to let her ride with me while we race. I can then leave him behind and never bring her back to him........
