There are a couple of things that are driving my buddy and I nuts on my 68 restoration...

On the 68 there are two fiber optic clusters... one for the rear lights which is located low down on the center console panel close to the parking brake handle. Where does the other fiber optic cluster go to for the headlights and turn signals? If you have a photo, that would be great!

Also, we're trying to figure out how washer fluid gets pumped from the reservoir to the windshield. Not surprising on this car, but all of the hoses are missing and we can't find and vacuum connections on the wiper motor. Short of sucking on the hose and spitting the fluid on the windshield, what are we missing to make this work properly as from GM?

Thanks!

There are no vacuum connections on the wiper motor; the washer pump is electric, mounted on the front of the wiper motor (see pic in my post under the "Windshield Washer Tank" thread - that motor/pump is a '67 and is reversed from C3's, but it's the same idea). One long hose goes from the washer fluid reservoir to the long center nipple on the pump, and each of the other two nipples takes a hose to the washer nozzles on the wiper arms. The piston-type pump has a bellows and check valve arrangement in it that sucks fluid from the reservoir and pumps it out through the nozzles.

Thanks for the photo JohnZ... that helps a lot. It looks like I'm totally missing the electric pump off of the wiper motor :( If I could get my hand on the past owners of this car, I would smack them in the back of the head!

Anyone else have an answer to the fiber optic question now?

Thanks!

dnewton,
I'll shoot ya some pics tonite......if my house hasn't floated away......raining like an SOB in Dallas this morning......

I don't have photos for you but my 70 has a series of indicators on the top of the center console between the radio and the console shift plate. It is a metal bezel with 6 light indicators - 2headlights-2brights, 2 turn signals.

I don't know about 68's but I have seen these on 69-71 vettes.

Thanks 68Roadster... the photo's will help. Again I think that someone has bastardized yet another part of the interior as there is no place to put the fiber optics between the radio and shift plate. Looks like I'm going to have to buy the proper year center shift console if I want to get the original look back.

Thanks all

dnewton,
Couldn't shoot the pics last nite, digi camera battery was down and I couldn't locate my charger.
Will shoot them tonite and send. You should have a black plastic strip across the top of your center console right below the radio with the second set of fiberoptic lights.
The bottom set is built into the shifter console plate. My pics will clear this up.

As for the wiper motor/pump assy, I think mine has been altered too. Last time I checked I think the Last Detail shop in Atlanta had the correct ones. May have been too long ago.

Talk to ya tonite.

dnewton,
Heres a couple of shots that maybe can help.
At the top of the console you'll see the other fiberoptic panel.
The other is the wiper motor/pump

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks for the photos 68Roadster! I'm glad to hear you didnt float away in that last storm! :L

The photo's are worth a million words... a lot of them cursing toward the previous owners! :mad They've bastardized my baby! :cry

At least now I know what the original look should be and how to attach my fiber optics and fluid motor.

Thanks 68Roadster... very big help!!! :w
