As some of you might know from previous posts, I've been searching for a long time for someone to work on my Corvette, and I've finally found someone with whom I'm extremely happy. I highly recommend The Corvette Shop in Montgomery, NY. Paul Comeau, the owner, is a really down-to-earth guy and really great to deal with. More importantly, he knows what the car should feel like and is able to make the proper repairs or changes, not just to fix it, but to make it right.

I normally don't make it a point to plug people I do business with, but if anyone is going through what I went through looking for a good Corvette mechanic, and is reasonably close to Montgomery, NY (I'm an hour and a half away, but the drive is well worth it!), I highly recommend The Corvette Shop (http://www.thcorvetteshop.com).

Its great to be able to spend our hard earned money with some one your confident in.

Make sure you also tell the owner of the shop he is doing the right thing and its apreceated by you.

I offer you a HUGE congrats on finding a good and competent mechanic.
Since I bought my car last year I had been looking for one myself local to where I live and have gone thru three of them so far - all highly recommended by other Vette owners - only to find out after taking the car to them and shelling out big $$$ that they were worthless and in most cases got my car returned to me running worst than before I dropped it off to them.
Finally, last month after shelling out a lot of money to the third mechanic and realizing that he did thgings all wrong also I came to a very simple conclusion and choice - either sell the car because I had no one around to take it to to keep it maintained or to break down and finally start trying to learn to work on the car myself. I went out and bought some basic diagnostic tools like a timing light, vacuum gauge and IR temp gun and with the help of people on here started off by learning how to set the dwell and the timing myself. I'll learn more as issues come up and with the help of all the incrediblly knowleagle and generous people on this forum I'll somehow get through things. I'll tell you what, after sending the car to three different shops over six times just to get the TIMING set correctly and they all screwed it up it was a very satisfing feeling to do it myself and actually get it right which is more than all these high priced mechanics were able to do.

If I had been able to find a good mechanic I would have been thrilled to have a place I could depend on to do whatever repairs I needed and have it done right, but overall I'm now actually even happier knowing I'm going to be doing the work myself with the help of people on here to get me through it. It's a very satisfying feeling to work on the car yourself.

I'm very happy you found a good shop by you as I know just how frustrating it is to find one. I do suggest though that at least on simple jobs to try to do it yourself. The hardest part is just working up the nerve to pick up the tools and start digging in if you aren't use to doing the wrenching yourself.
I'm still very nervous everytime I have to do something, but at least I started to learn and to me that's the important part.

BTW, is this guys shop near OCC where they make the custom choppers?

Thanks guys, I Just didn't want anyone to go thru what I did. Barry you nailed it perfect. My same exact feelings should i sell, no one around that wants to work on these cars etc etc. Some things i can do on my own, but after the basics the time and money are well spent with a person that does this all day long. Well, hope this helps out someone. Oh and he is about two miles from Orange County Choppers. Thanks for reading Mark. (sixty4)

Hi! Mark

I travel through this area on occasion and have been to this shop. I was looking for another Corvette project, stopped to check it out and ended up chatting about Corvettes with the owner. He was in the process of restoring a 61 at the time. Seem to be a very nice fellow, I am glad to hear he does good work.

Paul's been the only one to work on my '04 since I've had it. Very knowledgeable and his love of Vettes seems to outweigh his desire to make money. I consider myself very fortunate to have found him and to be in such proximity.:D

Guys --

No, plate isn't two digits, it's five, but part of the 5 digits is "64". Paint Shop Pro helped with the digital version of blurred plates you see on TV.

Thanks your car is awesome also. Mine only thinks it's a '67. :confused
