Howzit to every body out there!!! It's 11:00 p.m here in Hawaii, which means that while I'm wrighting this, all of you are tucked away in bed!! We're the last ones in the united states to enter the next day. I've finally got rid of that pingging that was haunting me now for the past few months!! The timing was to high, I did have it set at 6 deg, but, I'm guessing that, that was still a little high for this engine. I did read some where that actually, the L-98 for some reason runs better at a lower timing degree then what the dealer calls for, and the magazine went on to say that most seem to run at it's best, now check this out! from 0 deg to 2 deg top dead center!!! I havent set mine that low though, I've got mine set at 5 deg top dead center, and beleive it or not, it really does seem to run smoother then when I had it at 6,7, or 8 deg top dead center!! I seem to have to push down the pedel not as much as I used to, to go up a very steep hill with my air on or off!! On the free way, I'm noticeing that I'm struggling to go the speed limit (55 mph) because the car's wanting to get away from me and just go!!! so I'm constently haveing to but the brakes on to stay within the limits (55-60 mph) Coool!!! I thought that any of you who were following my adventure would like to know the end results of what was an on going problem!! If any of you were also haveing problems, or just curious and would like to do some experimenting, try it! it might end up helping you out!!!!

Oh!! by the way (off the subject) I'm putting on my 99' vette rims tomorrow morning, I've already painted my brake calipers red to prepare, because I know that they'll be very visible with those rims on!! I'll post pictures for my signiture when I can get that camera away from my buddy for a few minutes to take some!!!

I had horrid pinging when I first bought my '86 last year. At one point I'd dialed down the timing to about 2 degrees BTDC; found the car felt slower but definitely had no pinging. Eventualy, though, I discovered that my knock sensor was disconnected. I replaced the sensor and harness (mine was broken) and put the timing up to 6-8 degrees and no pinging at all. Not sure if you checked the sensor (or the ESC module, which on my car sits by the heater fan on the passenger-side firewall).

Yes, I changed it out (knock sensor) about 4 days ago.
