1966,and a 1962 thats almost complete
So I havent been using it much since I been working on the 62. I had to get it out to get the car inspected on Tuesday.

Again I have not been using this car. So I get it out and having a blast.

So a C5 gets next to me and we take off, all of a sudden the car starts breaking up at 5200 rpms .I run out of steam up around 110 or 120 and the C5 sails by me. I get out and check every thing all looks well .

I turn around and run it through the gears only to have it break up at 5200.

Pull it into my driveway only to find I have a 5400 chip in the msd box.
( I have been saving my money to get the original TI system rebuilt)

Go into my tool box and start going thru my chips and I find my 6200 rpm chip with a sticker on it with my hand wrightin on it saying
" leave the other one in "

I must of removed it a while back to keep me from whippin the car.

So a C5 driver now has some braggin wrights to whipping a Big Block midyear. But he had to work hard on it till I hit my chip.

There is a big differance in the 1000 rpms . I just ran out of gear and rpms

I also know I have to go easeyer with this car as at speeds it seams the front is light and wants to drift. Definately not what I am used to with the 62 or the wifes C5

Just thought I would share this with you guys.

The funnyest thing is I have NO recolection of putting in the lighter chip.

I am only 43 and I think I am turning into my Grand father with forgetting things

That is funny, Larry. The best part is the note, warning your future self to stick with the lighter chip. I can see me doing that too. I remember finding parts during reassembly of my 73 with notes like "don't force it or it'll bend" and suchlike.

ps: We missed you at Bowling Green.

ps: We missed you at Bowling Green.

Mac I will be sending some PM to some guys shortly, I actually feel guilty for not going and definately regret not going. It definately would have been a once in a life time trip for me and I missed out. I feel I let all of my buddies down.

Larry

let the C5 have his little victory.........we all know, including him, which was the cooler car anyway.

Anything over about 110 or so in my '65 the front end gets VERY light and it gets more than a bit scary because of that. Of course my car is a SB so have a bit less weight than your BB to hold it down.

BTW, I just turned 41 in March and sometimes my memory is so bad I find it amazing I can remeber my own name at times.
When I was working on my '65 than on the '78 over the winter I knew I had to mark EVERYTHING with little notes in the baggie the parts went into because I'd forget even the most obvious part of where it went or what it was for. Yep, I even marked the baggies for hood hinges and motor mounts - how could you mistake either of those parts for anything else?

Heres a humorous story related to bad memory: A while back my best friend told me a joke. After the punchline I laughed so hard I thought I was going to die - you know, the kind of laughing where yo can't stop and wished you could because your stomach hurts from it already.
After I could finally speak again I told him that had to be the funniest joke I'd ever heard in my life (and when I was younger I was known for being the person who had ALL the jokes. There weren't many I didn't know or had not heard). Anyway, After I told him how great the joke was he looked at me and laughed as hard as I did than told me that I was the one who originally told HIM the joke a few months previously. Probably the best joke I heard in my entire life or close to it, and I didn't not only forgot I'm the one who told it to him, I didn't remember the joke in the slightest! Go figure.
........... don't ask me what the joke is because at this point I don't remember and haven't the faintest clue what the joke is.
I've decided I suffer from both CRS and CRAFT diseases........... :D
CRS = Can't Remember Sh*t
CRAFT = Can't Remeber a F**king Thing

Sounds like you gave yourself good advice:D

As far as the C5 goes, he only got off easy because you let him!

not being familiar with the "chip", is this like a rev limiter that is in my C5 with the fuel pump? Hmmm, sounds like a good way to not toss the motor if it is.....do you remember what caused you to write do not put in, use the other one (that is too funny).....

Herb

Herb I just dont remember switching them or why I switched them. I put the bigger chip back in yesterday just to make sure that was the problem.

This motor is a real cool motor as it acts like a kitten under 4500 and then is a beast up around 6000.

The guy must of thought my motor was coming apart when it hit the chip.

Nope he is loong gone. But I have the 6200 back in.

Ill be ready for the next one though.

I am not bashing the C5's here , We own one

But it's alot of fun when one pullls up and they think your in an ole junker collector car , and you start pulling away from them, But spinning the tires up to fourth gear. They always get me in a long race (I run out of gear) but a short race Up untill 110/120 the mid year is the winner.

I never got next to a C5 Z06 yet

Well the mystery of the small chip is solved,

I was sharing this story with my wife's Ankle Ron, And he said "you stiff you put the small chip in the car last year when you loaned it to me for the car cruise last year"

As he was mid sentence I remember putting the smaller chip in it the night he took it thinking the car gets wild above 5 grand and this being his first night out with the car there was no reason to leave it in there.

MISTERY SOLVED.

I was so ocupied with building the 62, that last summer is a blur before corvettes of carlilse.

Here is a post from 10/18/2004 I responded to

Post topic
Anyone ever had a family member/friend ask to borrow your vette?

my answer

Yes and I would not hesitate to lend it to them. Just last Wensday night my wifes unkle took the 66 to a car cruise.I had NO fear of him using it.He had restored a 61 in 1979 and I used to watch him hand rub the shine out of the laquer paint he painted it with,

My babysiter use's my wifes C5 while we are away on vacation. I also have a 1967 Cadillac Deville Convertable that has been in more parades and weddings then I could count with out me in the drivers seat. Every one around me knows how hard I work on my cars and how important they are to me,so I know they will take good care of them.

I will not lend the 66 out to someone unless I know they have been behind the wheel of a muscle car. Its real easy to get in over your head with that car

Larry, I remember very well how frantic you were to get the 62 done for Carlisle last year. That explains everything.
PS: At 43 you're a young lad. Just wait till you hit your 50's that when the memory really starts to go.:L
