1964 Red Convertible
I've been searching hi & lo for about the last 6 months for a Midyear. Last week while delivering my bass boat (which I finally sold), I took a back road to get there and ..... there she was a 64 Convertible sitting by the road..... stopped and looked at it, brought the wife by yesterday... got the thumbs up, and will be signing the papers on Thursday !! It had just been restored about a year ago, and is it GREAT shape !! I'll get some pics posted soon.

My first project will probably be to install power steering. Has anyone upgraded a non-power steering 64 to power steering ? What are some of the pitfalls to watch out for ?
Where is the best place to get the kit ?

Way to go!

Remember.......pics a.s.a.p. :D

Power steering

I just finished putting power steering in my 65. It was pretty easy and I'm not a gearhead. The hardest part was replacing the relay rod because you have to disconnect the tierods but as long as you have the tool and a little elbow grease. I suggest you pick up a new set of tierod rubber boots because it's easy to chew up the old ones trying to remove the tierods. Also a gear puller for the Pitman arm.
I got my conversion kit from ZIP.
Good luck. Let us know how you make out.

Another 64

Woo Hoo!

Welcome to the gang!

Congrats on the new '64. Sounds like a nice car.

Tom

Glad to see another 64 on board. Go with the PS, it's worth it. If mine hadn't come from St. Louis with it, I would have converted in a heart beat. I just wish there was a PS setup that I could install on my 56 and still keep it stock looking. I would drive it more.

If you have got a Special HI Perfom Pack you can´t convert....because there is not enough room left due to the larger oil pan.

You car should have no steering damper as well then.

This is also the case for the fuelies.

Tad,

What a beautiful Vette. You will have alot of fun taking day trips through the hill country on clear days. Makes me want a midyear even more! My favorite Vettes have always been midyears. One day hopefully, I will get one.

Now is the time for you to enjoy. Have FUN!!!

Bill

Tad,
It looks like you have found a very nice 64 congratulations... Dave....

Tad-

What a great looking Vette! I'll bet you were grinnin' ear to ear on the whole drive back!

Congrats on the new car, unfortunatly, on '63's and '64's I believe it is alot harder to convert to PS as there is no relief in the crossmember.

Tad,
Very nice car!! I had a 64 coupe before I bought my 66. I really enjoyed that car. It had the PS option and drove very well. Welcomb.

She's a beauty. One to be proud of.

Nice to see you have the feline security guard on duty. He definately has a serious look on his face.

Tom

Very nice looking '64, just the right color. Watch out for the cat tracks, I see tabby is near by. Congratulation!:beer

Beautiful car! Welcome to the ranks of 64 owners!

I'll be doing the PS conversion on mine when I get around to rebuilding the front end. I've got all the parts, just waiting for the time now. Weather's been too nice to park it and start working.

I picked up my conversion from Volunteer Vette products http://www.volunteervette.com/ . Came with everything except the belt.
