finding that old VIN #

My dad expressed interest over the weekend in trying to find out what the VIN # was for his '59 Corvette that he had back in 1961. How would be the easiest way to go about finding this out for him? (Wait, did they even HAVE paper back in '61?? lol) Has anyone ever done this before?

Two ways - 1) If he still has some old paperwork, or 2) Find who he sold it to, and who he sold it to, and who he sold it to......... could be a LOOOONNG project

I found info regarding the search through our local DMV website- now I just have to "goose" my dad to call them and find out 8^]
