Anyone know what to use on the spare tire housing? Mine is in sound shape just dull and in need of a finish of some sort. Looks like it had undercoating or something on it. I'd like to make it look like it did when it was new. It's a 75 coupe.

Thanks

Bill check with the NCRS thread here. they can probably even tell you what was used to do the finish from the factory..

Thanks Robin

I just pulled the spare tire carrier and it looks like half the thing is patched. To boot someone did a poor job patching. I'm not into NCRS, so I figure a semigloss or satin black finish should be acceptable. Guess I'm going to get some practice performing fiberglass repair work.

I'm pretty sure the finish is natural, just the fibreglass itself, a dark grey with flecks. Undercoating may have been applied by someone at a later date to try to protect the bracket from the rust monster. Someone on the NCRS section will be able to confirm for sure.

Spare Tire Finish

OK on the natural finish. Looks like someone did try to protect the metal with something. Thanks for replying to my inquiry.
