Took my 90 convertable on a road trip this past weekend. :SteerGot to go to the Nascar races at Kansas City.:D The car ran without a hitch, and the gas milage wasn't just to bad. Had about a 130 miles of short jump driving on the tank of gas when we left and got 22.5 mpg on that tank. The next tank had some driving in Kansas City and to the track. Filled on the way home , 24.5 mpg . The next time I filled was with 186 miles of freeway driving with one pit stop for the wife. 28.6 mpg on that run. WOW, couldn't believe it. I had every bit of gas possible in it to. Is this common ? I use Shell premium only.
The only thing with the car is a bit of a vibration and I had the tires balanced before we left. I am afraid I have a bent wheel or a bad tire. If anyone has some 90 wheels they want to sell I might be intrested, it don't need to be a full set and I am in no hurry as in about a month it will be storage time for the winter.
If anyone is thinking of buying a vette, for over the road I would get a coupe , the convert is plenty noisy with the top up. But , you gotta love riding with the top down, so,,,,, maybe I should just buy a coupe too . Vettes must be a addicting . :)

Your mileage is typical for a car on a trip. My father was amazed that I got 25 to 26 consistently on the road. (Better than his 4 cyl mini van) He probably wouldn't mind having a vette, but as he says they're sort of impractical for a pair of octogenarians to get in and out of.

I like the idea of buying a drop top to complement my coupe. I tried to raise money by taking a collection, (I told the people where my office is, if they would only contribute $1000 a piece, I could buy a 91 Rolls Royce Corniche III 2dr convertible for about 100K. I dropped it to $650 for brand new C-6. No luck at either attempts.) I remember my mis-spent youth and my uncles 64 Impala and a 63 Triumph Spitfire I bought 8 months before I enlisted in the Navy...

The best milage I got on my '93 Ruby roadster was 98 MPG which was dropping into the San Joaqin valley on I-5 in California .... I felt like a high-roller for a brief 9 seconds!!

I have found that my 20 gal tank only "picks up" 18 gals and the the engine starves for food and dies ... you ever run out? .... Now before when we go on a road trip my wife says, "How many bars do you have?"

"I like the idea of buying a drop top to complement my coupe. "

To avoid having to add another stall to my garage, I simply bought a convertible with an auxillary hard-top .... the best of both worlds!

Randy , I have never run out of gas but have put 18 gal in it. Lucky maybe ? The hardtop, does the cover over the compartment stay or is that removed? I have already been thinking about getting one for open road. After this trip I will be driving it on road trips often. I may even go to the Black Hills rally in South Dakota next yr. They meet from all over eastern US at Sioux Falls South Dakota, only 50 miles from where I live. Any of you ever been to it ? They meet in downtown on Wed. afternoon before they leave on Thursday AM.

The rear deck stays (the rag top remains folded underneath) and the hard top bolts to those two rear brackets next to the seatbelt upper connectors and the two captured torx screw next to the sunvisors.

The car with the hardtop installed on it looks absolutley gre-e-e-at .... but, of course, I'm predjudiced!

Used hardtops (factory type) are listed on eBay periodically. Search "Corvette hardtop" and "Corvette hard top" (note space) .... they are out there!

I might be wrong but I am pretty sure all c-4 will take the same top ... i.e an '84 will fite a '90 .. etc.

About the gas situation and the possibility of running out, Triple A does not always show up with high-octane! LOL
