I have been reading the forum for a good while before I bought my Vette. I took particular notice about all the posts concerning experiences at the dealers. Of course the most resent one where they dropped the guys car off the rack takes the cake. However, my hood would not open so i came to the forum read some posts about this problem where they mentioned this special tool that you can use for this purpose. My Vette came with this tool behind the driver’s seat I didn’t know what it was but figured sooner or latter I would find out. Most of the post that talked about using the tool said the first time out it could be a real pain in the neck to get it to work. Since I had no clue what I was doing I thought I would wheel into the dealer and let there ace body shop people show me how to use it. The red flag went up the pole straight away they had never seen or heard of the tool and were at a total loss how to open the hood. The thing I find amazing about these people is that not having a clue how something works doesn’t faze them in the least. They actually were all excited to have this challenge it ended up with all three guys from the shop circling the car kibitzing about a solution. Of course the solution didn’t involve the proper tool I had put in their hands. The next thing I know one of the wizards has a coat hanger and is fishing around under the hood. Meanwhile one guy wanted to remove the windshield wipers and they all agreed that was the solution. Then the guy actually looked at one of the other guys and said, “Hey Bobby pop the hood and we will take the windshield wipers off and then we can get to the latch”. Talk about being a french fry short of a happy meal. In the mean time the other guy now has the coat hanger stuck under the hood and cant get it out. At this juncture I call an official time out. I told the guy with the coat hanger stuck under the hood if he scratched my paint I was going to rip his heart out. I sent the other two guys back to destroy someone else’s car. After we got the coat hanger out I went inside to see the manager who was not all surprised by my story and he sent across town to a guy that is the REAL wizard with Vetts. The manager mostly explained we just sell them we don’t really have anyone here that is all the good at working on them. The across town guy popped the hood in about 30 seconds took the console under the drivers side off fixed the problem and didn’t charge me a dime. Then he gave me a hands on lesson in how to pop the hood myself and sent me on my way. Needless to say that will by last trip to the dealer. GM wonders why they are losing market share.
