I recently purchased my first Vette on December 15. (2002 black on black coupe). I had spent almost a year looking and trying to decide if I should wait for the C6. For the Christmas holiday I decided to drive the Vette on the 500 mil e journey from Fairfax, Virginia to Knoxville, Tennessee. I can truly say that I almost looked forward to leaving just so I could drive back! Nothing is quite as enjoyable as a sunny day, 350 hp, and six speeds to chew up the interstate with. This is a great forum as I read frequently. Keep up the good info for us newbies!

vaC5,

Welcome to the world of Corvettes...and to the Corvette Action Center!! You made a good choice for your first Corvette!

Be sure to put Corvettes at Carlisle on your calendar for next August!

Did you get a chance to drive the Tail of the Dragon? It is hwy129 between TN and NC...11 miles and 318 curves! It looks like it is south of Knoxville.
Glad you enjoyed your roadtrip. I understand the C5s are about the most comfortable generation you can drive for long road trips.

vaC5, congrats on the choice of car and welcome to the Corvette Action Center. Last year we really enjoyed a long road trip with the C4. What a great trip.

In may we picked up our C5 and this past summer made two trips, one to NC and one to TN and, wow, what a ride. I totally understand what you're saying on the trip. This car was meant to cruise at 90mph all day long. :)

Enjoy the car and just ask when you need help. :w

You said it all! I love my Grand Sport dearly, but there's no comparison when you're on a road trip!:Roll

Oh yeah, I know what you mean about that first road trip. Only recently did I have the opportunity for a highway cruise, and what a joy. The highllght may have been busting that upity mitsubishi at a little over 140 shortly after 4th.

BTW, what is 6th gear for?:confused

I know just what you mean. Being 17 and driving my corvette for a long trip is a blast. i get these old guys in these nice cars staring at me jealously. Nothing beats that! Also a very comfortable car. I love the interior set up it has everything i could ever want in a car (Except its before the heads up display!). I love giving it gas in 5th on the highway and flying by mustangs!

Glad you are enjoying it!

Thats a lot of miles for a 99 hows she holding up?

NO kidding!

Hows the driver's seat taking it?

Rain(being careful not to ask about your backside) hahahaha ;LOL ;LOL ;LOL

Not sure about his car, but our C5 just turned 90k and we bought the car with just a little over 80k at the end of May. Holding up well and the driver seat is in good shape. Of course many of those were highway miles with the trips we took this summer mentioned earlier in this thread.

motor is good , drivers seat is worn but OK , tranny went at 105k , lost track of the number of tires and rotors it's gone thru , some lights in the radio have burn't out , AC display went out and replaced it with a salvage unit , seat rocks ( typical ) but doesn't bother me since it's all the way back anyway........

I've driven the crap out'a it and serviced it myself except the tranny. Synthetic fluids religiously.

all in all....it's great.:upthumbs :cool :w

wow!
