Fitting an 87 Glass top to an 85 Coupe

I have a chance to buy a glass top from an 87 coupe pretty reasonably. I know I probably have to change the hardware to get it to fit. Where can I find the parts I need. I'm sure I will not have many problems doing the conversion once I find the parts.

There doesn't seem to be any C4 Vettes in the local junkyards near me.

Just found this, is this what I need or is it just a trim piece?

As far as I know, the mounts/hardware are the same for most of the 80's C4 models. I think the inside latch design changed but the top itself fits the same basic frame for several years. Be prepared to adjust the recievers in the top.
That piece that you found is just plastic trim from what I can see.

I'm sure someone will step in with more knowledge than me but I'm pretty sure the attachments were changed during the mid 86 model year run. I'm also pretty sure that the tops are not interchangeable unless you change out the hardware. I believe there is one attachment type from 84 to mid 86 and then another from mid 86 to end of the production run.

You might try a search to see what you come up with. I seem to recall a similar thread within the past couple of weeks.

So I realize I need the brackets off of an 86.5-88, but I have no idea where I can get a set. Anyone on here have any to sell or know of someone who does?

There are three spec's for roof panels. They are:


1984 - 1986 (early)



1986 (mid year) - 1988



1989 - 1996

All three share common rear hardware. The main difference is the front attachment points. The roof panel frame cannot be modified. Only the mounting points on the actual corvette windsheild frame. But it's fairly early to replace them.

When I ws looking to replace my cracked '87 roof panel, I picked up the 1989 - 1996 brackets. That allowed me to shop eBay for the used later-model roof panels - of which there is a better selection. Funny thing is I then found a perfect 1987 bronze top used. LOL!

Anyway, I picked the brackets up on eBay for less than $50.00. So, that is where I'd look. Lots of C4's are being parted out and so its fairly easy to find these types of parts.
