FIXED GEN light is on - 1977 L82 4 speed
Well this turned out exactly as I had surmised in my original posting. Faulty connection at the 14 pin connector that plugs into the printed circuit on the rear of the Gauge panel. The mating pins on the printed circuit laminate for the connector are pretty flimsy and easy to misalign or even tear. I just realigned all the mating pin and the GEN light is now out and the Voltmeter reads properly. I have replacement printed circuit laminate and I suppose I may as well replace it seeing as the weather forecast for New England is for rain right into the weekend. Easy fix, just remove the center console, the unscrew the gauge cluster from the dash and the connector is right on the backside. GEN light is on - 1977 L82 4 speed
I just got the 77 out of winter storage. Fired right up and runs good, but the GEN indicator light in instrument panel is on and the Voltmeter reads at the low end of the scale. Checked the voltage at the alternator and at the battery and they are fine at around 15 volts with engine running. Probably a bad connection somewhere .... maybe at the printed circuit for console gauges ? Anyone got any tips ?
