I have been noticing the unmistakable odor of engine coolant any time I fire the '84 up, and finally found the source to be the cheapo rebuilt water pump (probably from Autozone or something like that). There is a plate mounted to the back of the pump that is leaking. Of course I don't even want to mess with this one, as these "generic" units just don't flow well at low RPMs...it really has a hard time keeping cool at idle.
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with these "FlowKooler" water pumps, and if they really do make a difference at lower RPMs (as they claim).
