Have a chance to get a set of Flowmaster mufflers.
Any benefit to this at all?

I would agree benefit by putting larger complete exhaust system.
But would I see any by simply replacing the Mufflers?

Thanks for the clear up
Rain

Well considering the biggest restriction on the later C4s is the Mufflers I would say, yes, changing to lowmaster should help the exhaust flow better

A data point for you

Rain, I can tell you that on my previous machine, a 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII w/ low miles, I installed a pair of Flowmaster "Delta 40" series muffs and was disappointed with the sound (they weren't loud enough for me), but I lived with them. There was also a resonance issue but this didn't bother me.

What bothered the hell out of me was the way they started looking within a year - old, rusty, generally beat up. Not rusted-through; they still had plenty of life left. Just rusty enough to catch my attention and **** me off. I suppose I could have painted them over but decided to sell the car for my Corvette.

Never priced these before. What kind of coin should I lay down for this upgrade?

Thanks,

Really cheap. You dont even have to have a muffler shop do it. I cut mine with a friends torch. Then welded the new ones on. Took about 2 hours, plus a beer break. If you take it to someone, I would bet between $75-$125.

I spent a grand and replaced the entire system, from the manifolds back....2 1/2 stainless from Borla. 3" free flow cat.Lifetime warranty... The mufflers have twin 3" outlets, practically no resonance and it has this low growl without letting every cop in 15 miles know I am on the road. The best part is even 2 years later it still looks good, no rust....and I may never have to change it. Others have to replace theirs every 2-3 years because of the rust. You may save a few bucks now...but every couple years it adds up to more then what I paid for mine with none of the replacement hassles. JMHO

muffler eliminators

$180. plus s&h from Mid America, plus an hour's labor for a mechanic to install. Total investment less than $275. Although I've been using the same mechanic for 20 yrs, I personally wouldn't trust him to replace the mufflers with his own pipe, as I'd bet it would look crappy compared to using a custom-designed part.

It doesn't appear that Eckler sells these things.

Eagle85C4, what lodge do you belong to? Mine is Alexandria-Washington No. 22, Alexandria, Virginia.

$180? Why does that seem so incredibly expensive to me for a few feet of SS pipe? (In my Bill O'reilly voice...) Am I'm wrong here?

Again, Thanks for the info!!!!!

You can always make your own. I know a guy who got some pipe, cut his tailpipes off the mufflers and pieced it all together. Total cost $30. It looked pretty good.

How much resonance did the car develop? Which brand did you buy?
