I feel so . . . so . . . so dirty! Did I sell the Vette and buy a Mustang? No, much worse. Did I send an apology to Mr. Restring in hopes that he wouldn't say mean things about me? No, even worse than that!
I went out and bought a Windows PC! Oh, the shame! The slow load times on CF (the only forum I had a problem) were bad enough, but the real spark was that I couldn't get into the Solid Axle Lounge!!! :eek So I did the unthinkable. I spent $499 + tax for a Pentium 4 1.7 GHz computer. Dang, these things are cheap!
My impressions? CF is indeed faster. CAC still wins, though. Oh, and it took me about two hours to get this dang thing working with my DSL (Mac users may remain smug). Windows has come a long way, but I'll remain a Mac guy ('cept fer the internet, where I'm undecided).
For Mac and all you Mac guys, here are some things I learned: We all know that when you buy a Mac, you simply pick a speed (and price) and buy it. Pro-Tools, Photoshop, Premier or whatever is gonna work just fine. Things are a little different in the Windows world.
Check some online forums for some higher end windows applications; Gigastudio, for instance (which I had to buy a PC for a couple weeks ago.) Notice how many guys have problems until they switch to Brand X motherboard or Brand Y processor. And which operating system (Windows 95, 98, 2000 or XP) works or has problems.
It took me a week just to figure out what to tell the guy to put in for me! That Windows computer cost me $1,500, incidently, not including audio card (another $800.)
But Windows had something for years that Macs still don't. That cool scroll thing on the mouse!
Hmmm, this is getting a little long. So anyway, let's just keep this whole PC thing a secret, OK?
