Nothing like a dark garage and a multimeter. I hook it up and notice my interior lights comming on. Hmmm. Pull the fuse, and draw goes from 2.44 amps to .02 amps. Put fuse back in. 2.44 amp draw. Wait for the timer to kill interior lights. .02 amps. Eureka!!
Now, is .02 amp draw OK? If it is, then the reason my old battery kept going dead is that the middle cell was cooked in it. Canadian Tire gave me a new battery at full warranty. I think my troubles are over. I think.
