I bought this 62 at Carlisle a while back. It was a no hit original 62 fuelie that the previous owner had narrowed the frame and tubbed. He had the owner history back to 63. The car had never been anything other than a show or race car.The third owner claimed the car was painted by Von Dutch. A gentleman representing the traveling Von Dutch museum tour looked at it and authenticated it. This car was spotless white glass underneath and the frame didn't have a pit on it. Under the dash had never been touched. Other than being tubbed it was one sweet car.

It had a 13.5:1 60 over 283 with a set of heavily massaged 461 X heads, an M-22 and a Dana 60 with 4.56's out back. I knew when I bought it that it had a nasty cam. Idled around 1100 rpm. It had a Jones-Motorola tach in it that went to 10,000 rpm. On the way home I buried that tach. It was a real screamer.

I bought the car from Pro-Team and got the previous owners info from them as he had some pics and info on the car he was willing to share. I went to visit with him and he shared pictures and the history of the car.

Seems he was in the military and stationed near Hueytown Alabama and had worked in the Allisons machine shop where he prepared this engine for his H- stock automatic 55 Chevy. He told me he used to shift at 13,000 rpm. It had 4 bolt splayed mains that went into the water jackets . He was a cool guy and gave me some pics and sold me some leftover parts for next to nothing. I found out he sold the car to Pro-Team a couple of weeks before Carlisle for $7500 with the radio and tops which I did not get for my $12,000

I drove and raced the car for a year and ran a best of 12.86 117 with the 283 before switching to a 406 that ran 11.40's. I sold the car with a 350 in it with no tops for $14,000 at Carlisle the next year. I wish I could have kept this one.

Thanks for sharing,What year did you purchase the car, they sure dont sound like recent prices.

That car just looks Killer, and with the motor you described its sounds like it was a killer also, that must of been some long ride to jersey with 4:56'S and the 22 singing a song.

I bet you are right Larry.
Last year when I drove to Carlisle and back from Delaware - about a 2 - 2 1/2 hour drive - my ears were ringing from just my stock 327/365 motor and 4:11 rear with sidepipes. With the 4:11 on the car driving on the highway I always feel the need to shift into the 5th gear I don't have so I can't imagine how driving with a 4:56 would be like.

I'm guessing around 92- 93 ish. It didn't really start making power till around 4500 rpm so cruising at 4000 rpm was no big deal. The guy I sold it to hated the paint and painted it black. I saw it parked at a restaurant during a golf trip to Myrtle Beach a few years later.

thats wild! i was looken for pics of my old 58,but i think my x burned em/lol !when i removed the trips, trans ign,etc from my old 68/l71 & stored it all in the basement she took a hammer to it all.

Did anyone think to let Lou know about this post? He's gonna love that '62 - it's almost identical to his in that, although his lacks the flames, his is also white with a black top. :cool

He''s gonna love this story. 13,000 rpms!!! :eek

Yikes!!!

A man after my own heart-13,000RPM'S????? That's rice RPM's! A HIGH reving SBC, ain't nuthin' like em'! Great car, great story, thanks for sharing the pictures also, now I know what mine would look like with a LOT of flames. I would like to do some ghost flames if I ever get the glass done on mine, but like everyone knows, it's not "just fix the spiders and cracks", it's all or nothing to the tune of $10,000 by the time your done.
Thanx for the heads up BroKen;)
