Hey, guys, OK I know we have beat the rust issue up over and over again. However, I wanted to get some thoughts. After pulling the gas tank and all from the back, I found some interesting stuff (and the original build sheet that disintegrated when I tried to remove it from the top of the tank).

On the frame, from the back of the back tires rearward, I have rust out the wa-zoo. The frame looks like pictures of a ship at the bottom of the ocean. I plan to grind off what I can and use some Por 15 on it.

Here's where it gets wierd. The frame above the back tires is spotless. Same as by the front tires. The inner side of the side frame rails is very bad as well, but the bottoms, and everything else looks and feels (jabbing with a screw driver) solid. Obviously, I have a Northern car. I want to do what I can to stop the rust without removing the body. I do not want to go that deep into a restoration.

What should I do. Now that I have all the lines off and access (to some extent) to the frame. Is there anything out there to shoot up into the hard to reach areas to stop the rust (area's I cant get to by hand). I just want to neuteralize it.

What should I be doing?

OH, by the way, the new Hooker Headers are in and look GREAT. They fit perfect and I only had to cut two of the Stage 8 bolts down to get them all to fit without any dinging of the headers. Man, how easy was that!!!!

Try doing a search using rust or frame as a keyword. I know we had a lengthy discussion about just this subject a while back.

I've been using the Metal Ready from POR-15 and doing exactly what you are talking about. While it doesn't paint it and coat it like the POR-15, the Metal Ready has rust preventative and comversion properties as well. You can purchase it in a spray bottle if you desire or just buy the product and use your own. I also read about someone using a garden sprayer to spray large quantities inside the frame rail using the drain holes to coat the inside. The undercoating shops are supposed to have the capability to spray inside the frame rails using the drain holes. Whether they would just spray undercoating or a rust preventative is something you would have to look into.

Hi jinks..... Before doing anymore to your frame check the area in front of the rear wheels. It would be above the trail arms. There is a tool which measures the thickness of the metal and can give you a better ideal of what your up against. Also be careful how you jack this baby up. If you have trouble in these areas Your in a big hurt. all though there are repair pieces of frame offered, It would be best to change frames. This is just my opion. Ckeck those areas I mentioned and if their OK paint on the por 15. Good luck !!!!

Thanks for the input guys. Oddly enough, even with all the rust the frame is really pretty solid. It looks like hell, but there are no rust throughs. I think I am just going to grind and brush off what I can and use some of the rust converter spray for the inside of the frame like Bob suggested. Then use Por on the outside of the frame. Thanks again.
