Frame swapping

Anyone successfully put a 69' frame under a 64'? What is involved regarding the frame mounts?

Thanks!!!!

64 Mike

Hi Mike,

It has been done before. There are several differences in the body mount locations and their height. Check out the different frame dimensions on the page on my site http://www.hayco.ca/work.htm

My understanding is that you must change all the frame mounts as the drawings will clearly indicate. Also the diagonal rear braces that reinforce the "kick up" area need to be removed. The rear of the frame from the rear crossmember in front of the rear body mounts needs to be cut off the old frame and welded to the '69 frame. This will allow the original bumber brackets to be installed and locate the rear body mounts. The front frame horns need to be altered to match the '64 frame design. I have heard reports that the original can be traced on the '69 frame horn and then trimmed to match although others have told me that you need to transplant the original frame horns onto the '69 frame to make it all line up.

I have never done this myself, I am only passing on the information that I have been told over the years.

Hope that this helps.

Take care,
Brian
