1973 Medium Blue Convertible
Hello,

I have a 73 convertible that the urethane front bumper has started splitting. I would like to go back with a urethane replacement bumper on this car. Would fitting this part be fairly straight forward? Should the bumper be painted off the car and then installed? Any advice on performing this replacement would be helpful.

Thanks
Kent

Who will paint the new bumper cover? Let the painter advise on whether to paint it on the car or off. Color match is what you're after.

Be careful with the grilles on your '73. They are one year only and extremely difficult to find if something should happen to one.

I am still looking for a shop that I trust to do the work. The two shops I have approached about doing this work were not interested. They were into doing insurance jobs. I know what you mean about the front grills. I searched for a couple of years before I found grills that were in decent condition to restore.

where do you live at? This past weekend I saw a 73 vert in metallic blue with custom wheels at a car show in Spring TX that had a bumper that was "bondoed" (for a lack of a better word) to the front end for a seamless look.
If you are in the area, I know a guy that might could do it (dunno how much he costs for a partial repaint but he does good work and does a lot on classics)

I am in the Temple area which is about 60 miles north of Austin.

Since the paint will have to have a flex additive, it was easier when we painted mine to do off the car so no masking was required. Might check the fit first tho since you are using a new one.
