Anyone have any suggestions for installing a new front hood emblem on a 95 vette? Specifically, the two prongs which go through the hood. My replacement emblem did not come with any clips or such and you have to have fingers no larger than the size of a two year old to reach into the holes located on the inside of the hood! Does anybody know what fasteners to use? What size? What tools? Thanks:D

They are just the "push-on" type of fasteners, I forget what you call them now.

The main problem, as you've already discovered, is the limited space in which to work. Make sure whatever fastener you use is magnetic because you're sure to drop it at least once. If it's magnetic you'll be able to snare it back, from down in the front of the hood. ;)

Just did this on my 89. Used what I call "cut nuts". Nuts stamped from sheet metal which cut their own threads on the posts. You need to stick them to a socket with gum, grease, or some kind of pookie to avoid dropping them into the front of the hood. Also need another person to push on the emblem while you start the nuts.

another way to do it is to stick it in a socket and slightly shut the hood. with it partially shut you will be at more vertical with the nut and it is unlikely to fall out of the socket.... but, buy a bag of those nuts... you will probably lose at least one

The speed nuts are readily available at auto parts stores, and sometimes at the hardware store too. Yeah I agree, you'll most likely lose one or more inside the hood and they'll never see the light of day again, so buy a bag of them!

I used electrical tape to tape the nut to the socket and punched a hole for the stud. Once started the tape comes off with the socket. If it doesn't? Consider it a free gasket.....definately buy a bag of them. The emblem isn't the only place they're used.

I put silicon seal in the deep socket then put the nut into the silicon and it will stay there till you pull the scoket off...

I replaced mine right after I bought the car. I dropped one of the original "cut nuts" in te hood when I removed it. They were worn out, so I was going to replace them anyways. The new one did not come with new ones, so I bought a pack at the local auto part store for a buck and change.
As far as the install goes, it's real easy. Clean the area real good ad remove the old double sided tape. With the 2 holes, it is easy to line up. I test fit it first to make sure it fit. Then I just removed the tape and used the double sided tape to hold it in place. Then I put some paper in the socket and then stuck the uts in the socket so they were held in place securely. I started the nuts by hand and then snugged them up with a wratchet. Be careful tightening them, the studs on the emblems are plastic and I'm sure it won't take much to break them off. It took me about 5-10 minutes to install it.
