I may be moving next year to a state that requires a front license plate. When you take the license plate cover off is there already a frame or something to screw the license plate into? I guess what I had planned on doing was putting the license plate on and then buying a clear license plate cover that conforms to the front bumper like I've seen in Ecklers or MAD. My brother has a C5 and he bought a filler or whatever it's called that brought the license plate out even with the bumper and I didn't like it very well. Plus I think he said it was about $100 versus $20 for just the clear cover.

Appreciate your input.

I clear covers are sort of like the one you have on now.
The licence plate will attach with 2 screws on the top. You will have to notch out the bottom of the Lic.plate in order to mount the clear cover, which has a snap in arrangement at the top.

There is no special bracket needed. When you remove the front filler plate, you will see 4 holes for self-threading screws. I used stainless steel screws.

The clear covers may look nice, but there is no real way to effectively seal the cover from dirt, dust and water getting in. It's a real maintenance PITA.

Hmmm...

I had to cut my license plate down about a quarter inch to get it to fit.
I guess everything IS bigger in Texas.
:)

What type of screws hold the front filler plate. Are they torx, phillips, etc?

If you're in Illinois, you already live where they require a front plate.

I live in NY, a front plate state and in the 15 years I have had my vette never once had an issue with the law. I see plenty of vettes here with no plate (75% I'd guess). Not saying that you shouldn't put it on, but my 2cents is that if your otherwise 'legal' and obeying most traffic laws you should not really be scrutinized for the missing plate.

There are or have been other threads regarding front plates here on CAC. Some states dont tolerate it at all. That is not using the front plate. Some officers let it slide. Some have written directives that states that U cannot use a cover.
Some get caught . Some do not.

All depends..........

i've had mine for 2 years and no front plate on it ever. no problems, and i'm all over the road with it, passing plenty of law enforcement types and even pulled over once or twice... but its never been a problem :naughty:

It's the same here in WA state. As long as you have the plate in the car and show it if necessary, then its all good.
