Otay, just bought a 2010 Blade Silver ZR1 - have named her MARIAH

now, am NOT going to put the butt ugly license plate holder on the front! thought I could reuse the holder from the 2008 Pace Car, but that is no go - so, for those of you in 2-plate states what have you done if anything? - am thinking will chance NO PLATE until I get stopped

Alright, I live in one those two plates state and don't like the factory front plate treatment. Been going plateless for now but shhh. Never know where Smokey is listening. :boogie

Don't know about your state, but I needed to have the front plate on for inspection. So I had the dealer install something like shown at the link below. Certainly not endorsing anybody here. The link is here only for illustration. Good luck with whatever you decide.

BTW, congrats on your new acquisition.

I live in a 2-plate state and was a diehard "no front plate" person for many years. However, we have an over-zealous cop in my town who admits he has it out for those Corvette people!!:ugh

When my husband got stopped twice for no front plate by this cop, I thought it might be smart for me to get one for my C6. Did a lot of research and came up with what I think is the least offensive option. Try www.topflightrepro.com

Lucky3,

checked the Zip one and it DOES require drilling three holes! NFW!

Z06Man,

Top Flight's attachment appears to be with 3M tape or something - have contacted them about how it mounts - am also considering the Speed Lingerie bra with plate holder

I don't think you'll want a bra on the Vette all the time.

Here's what my convertible looks like with the Top Flight Reproductions.

Yep, knew that name jogged the ol' brain cells. That would be the one my dealer installed. Got the removable one. When it's not on, you have to know to look for the bracket, it's almost invisible. Probably has a lot to do with the fact I have black paint and the bracket is black.

Take a look at the installation guide here if you haven't already.

Elaine,

did you get the QUICK RELEASE like Z06Man?

Z06Man,

seems pretty straightforward - looks cheesey, but better than the abomination that comes with the car

To each his own I guess and I happen to agree. I was willing to live with "cheesy" since it meant that it would be used only for the trip to the inspection station and back. Front plate hasn't seen the light of day since. That's liable to change though if Smokey ever catches me. I've passed a load of them so far and they haven't nailed me yet. Then again, I love living on the edge. :boogie

Save the wave. How many Vettes have you waved at today?
:w

Z06Man,

don't get me wrong, solution is better than what GM provides - am looking for insurance for when Smokey da Bear does stop me - only takes one ticket and then I will put something on - would like to have something in my back pocket - so, you put it on for inspection only - is the 3M tape "easily visible" without the bracket mounted? - probably not so much for you since you have a black car

BTW - am going to "break" the ZR1 in starting Saturday, as I am driving to Minnesota to visit my Mother and then will drop down to Des Moines, IA on Thursday for a NCRS Regional - around a 2500 jaunt in "MARIAH", like the wind, as that is the name I have bestowed upon the new lady in my life! (VBG)

Hang it under the spoiler, use a full width piano hinge so it swings up in the forward air flow, then drops down when parked,

works for me :thumb

you have any pix and isntructions?

I already have that and it will NOT work with the ZR1 - that was in my initial post, and why I was looking for an alternative

The part of the bracket on the car mounts underneath the front lip above the intake. You would literally have to be lying on the ground in front of the car to see it. And even if you were looking right at it, you can't see the adhesive.

Well guy....I happen to be in a two plate state as you....First I tried no plate at all.....city cop stopped me but, was nice and no ticket. I then attempted to get around this issue by 1) placing a color copy of tag on visor and folding visor down while moving....that got me a 'warning' ticket by our "friendly" (NOT) Texas Highway Patrol (most of which are jerks I might add as well, having a gun does something for them because of the lack of 'other' endowment I would assume) and 2) then I tried to place the front tag on dash....that got me a ticket.....cost me $115.00 and the tag was in the vehicle. Just not displayed on the front of the vehicle and according to how law written here in this state must be displayed in front of vehicle. So.....I bought a tag holder that is removeable from West Coast Corvette....I have found those folks are much more 'customer service oriented" than Mid_America" (my advice is to avoid M.A). Anyway, the holder/bracket works great too. The bracket is installed first and then holder just latches onto it. You can then remove the plate holder if desired for shows/looks when not on the road. Again, West Coast Corvette is where I ordered mine from and they are very helpful and quick to respond if you have question/problem. So, moral here is, if ya get warned, don't push your luck like I did....or the court will get their fingers in your wallet!!!!
(when I first bought my vette I started buying accessories. My first round of purchases was a car cover and door sill/lower door protectors to start with. That's when I discovered Mid America engages in false advertising....if ya want to know details I'll be happy to let ya know. I try to warn folks so they will not get taken advantage of like I did :mad ) In fact it just occured to me I should post a thread on the subject. I hate being taken advantage of.

Orange,

had the bracket you describe on my 2008 Pace Car - thought I could reuse on the ZR1 - but NADA! ZR1 has a little thing called a grill that would not allow me to mount the bracket - so, think I will order what Z06Man has recommended - not going to worry about it until I get back from my road trip to Minnesota, eh!

Dont need instructions, its like a door on its side.

Just screw a piano hinge to the top of the number plate, and screw it under the spoiler,so it swings back and forth.a piano hinge is better because you dont have to align a pair of hinges to give free movement.
When the police have stopped me for a non number plate it hangs down when the car stops. And hey presto I have a number plate

its worked 3 times thus far:L
