I'm looking for suggestions on how I might install an after market, one piece, Indy style, Air dam/spoiler on my 1979 Coupe. The challenge I'm having is trying to install it without any major modifications to the fenders or without the use of fiberglass bonding.

The spoiler comes pre-drilled to fit the delta shaped under carriage enclosure on the car but the two sides of the spoiler have two large flanges (wings) at either end that I assume are supposed to fasten to the inside flanges of the wheel wells. Problem here is there doesn't appear to be enough material on the inside of the wheel well flanges to drill into to properly mount the spoiler to the fenders.

I'm including a picture of the spoiler to give you a better idea of what spoiler I have.

Thanks again in advance.

Spolier Installation

Did you come across this spoiler that perhaps wasn't designed for a '79 and want to adapt it to your '79? If yes, I would make modifications to the spoiler rather than the car. Since the spoiler needs to get prepped for paint prior to installation, make necessary changes so that it makes a smooth transition into a mounting surface on the body.
You can do this by adding tooling foam to the part and roughing it out and pulling a casting off the part. Then bond the new part onto the spoiler and fit it up and do any finish work until you're happy with the fit.
It would sure be helpful if you had a photo of the part held up to the body to get a better understanding of the mismatch.

The spoiler fits the form of my 1979 fine, the only problem I encounter is a the very ends of each of the spoiler. There is an enlarged flange and a hole obviously for the purpose of mounting to the inner flange of the fender well. Problem is there is no meat on the inner flange to munt it to. Looks like it was trimmed at the factory.

I have never done this but have a possible solution to your mounting problem. Tape off the painted fender area, clean the inner fender area and lay up a glass lip on the inner fender to mount your spoiler. The spoiler will cover it so it won't need paint and can always be ground off if you decide not to use it later.
