Anyone with experience with how FRP bodied cars fair in mild to moderate hail storms? I know the panels won't dent but what about the paint and clearcoat?

(I hope the answer isn't a BFO, but I had to ask).

TIA.

Good Question :)

I have first hand experience :eek

3 years ago just outside of Oklahoma City, a 1980, 1981 & a 1988 got caught in hail storm. We pulled off to the side of the road as a tornado passed by within 1/2 mile or so and the hail started out the size of small marbles or peas, then got about the 1/2 the size of a golf ball, with jagged edges :cry

I recieved very minor paint damage on one of my T-Tops, I don't think the 1980 received any damage, the 88 had about 3 or 4 paint chips on the clam shell. The 88 is a convertible too..

It sounded horrible sitting inside listen to all the banging. Somewhere I even have photo's taken through my windshield.. The guy in the 88 has a video of it..

Then 2 years ago going across on I-80 BLACKDOG and I again were caught up in a hail storm and tornado warning in Sydney, Nebraska. No damage there either, but we found shelter before the big stuff came down. The pea size hail sounded terrible but did very little if any damage.

I remember living in Nebraska back in the 70's and a tornado and storms went through Grand Island Nebraska and had softball sized hail.. Those things put HOLES in Corvettes parked on the Chevy lots..
