I need some opinions. In redoing all of my fuel delivery system, I found that I may not have enough room to mount my Earl's fuel filter between the pump and the carb. I do have room to mount it just before the pump on the frame rail.

Do you guys know if there are any pro's or con's to putting it before the fuel pump, as opposed to between it and the carb? I know its possible to get trash in the gas tank, is it possible for the fuel pump to introduce metal shavings into the fuel line? Since its a new pump, that would be my only concern.

Thoughts?

I mounted a canister screen type filter above my fuel cell, that may not be applicable to your setup though.

Where ever you mount it, think Heat and Collision. Keep it as far from your headers as practical (Cover it with some heat blanket material if necessary) and in as protected a location on the inside of the frame rail as you can.

If your concerned about the new pump possibly throwing junk into your carb, plumb a standard cartridge type filiter into the line from the pump on a temporary basis. Pull the temporary setup out after a minute or two of run time before things get too hot and you should be good to go.

CYa!
