I've just bought a beautiful bright red 81 corvette. Here in NZ we have 91 and 98 octane unleaded fuel and my question is which one is the best to use;help;shrug

I only run super(93 Octane)here in the USA!
in my'81

Congrats with your 81 :)
If you have the change, also check out the L81 subforum ;)
On the question. A standard L81 has a low compression so she can run on almost anything. Interesting thing is that different parts of the world use different calculations for the fuel octane rating. USA is AKI (average between Ron and Mon), europe Ron and you also have MON. So to say Euro95 here in Holland is the same as premium 91 in the states. If you're interested check out wikipedia on octane ratings.

Peer81 gave you the correct answer. Your car was built to run on 87 octane gas (under the N.Am rating system) which is equivalent to around 91 octane in NZ. Using higher octane gas than necessary is a waste of money and is of no benefit.
