My new 2015 Z51 makes a ticking noise (almost like when you put bad gas in older cars). I took it to the dealership and the service advisors keep telling me it is normal. It is hard for me to believe that it is normal. I have to have radio on to drown the sound. This is my 6th corvette and my C4, C5, or my C6 ever sounded like this. Can this be fixed?

HI there,

They are absolutely correct, and here are the reasons why.

#1, this engine, Gen 5 small block is unlike ANY other engine that came before it because of the spark ignited direct injection.

#2, c5/c6 engines ran at 55-61 psi at the injector, your LT1 runs at idle anywhere from 400-600 psi, which is substantially more.

#3, the fuel injectors do NOT use only 12 volts to fire them, they now require over 50 volts to accurately fire the injector due to the excessive pressures needed.

These factors make the fuel injector tick noise MUCH LOUDER than any c4-c6 Corvette.

Allthebest, Paul
