Hi,
I was hoping someone out there could help me on a question for a fuel pump for my corvette. I am the 3rd owner of the car and although I have some history I don't have it all. The fuel pump currently needs to be replaced. When I look at the catalogsand talk to chevrolet dealers it seems that I need an AC Delco part #40083. However, this doesn't look anything like the part which looks original that is on the car. In an old chevrolet parts book it indicates that the correct part for my car is #40018. This looks more like the part currently on the car. When I look at the AC Delco site the 40083 part is listed for my year and engine size, but the 40018 part is listed for my engine size, but not a corvette. Does anyone have any idea which is the "right" part?

Did You....

Take the old one out yet? Without being able to see it, I'd first suggest taking the old one to the dealer you spoke to and matching it up with one. I don't see any reason it would have to be for a corvette, small block fuel pumps are pretty much the same I "think."

#40083 is the "correct" pump, but they're rare as hen's teeth. Any replacement pump will work just fine, but the closest one in appearance to the original (identical except it doesn't have "AC" cast in the housing) is available at Paragon - their #2932, $65.00.

Thanks John and Rowdy,
We took the fuel pump off and now are fairly convinced that the fuel pump on the car is AC#40503 which apparently is the fuel pump for a 1967 corvette with the 327 engine. We will put on the 40083 pump since that is the correct replacement pump and take it out driving. Thanks again for the help.

Not A Problem

Hope it was a help. Wasn't sure exactly what you were looking for, but it sounds like you have a handle on it now.;)

Sorry to be late with this, but I haven't been at CAC for a couple weeks.
I replaced the fuel pump on my 65, and found it to look quite different from the many small block pumps I have seen. It was number 40083, and it has a ring of screws around the bottom, holding it together.
I mention this because a few days after installing it, I had a puddle of fuel on my garage floor. I crawled under the car and found that I could tighten every screw around the bottom by at least a half turn. That solved the leak problem.
Just thought I'd mention it.

The beauty of the 40083 (if you can find one) is that it's rebuildable (Paragon has the kit), unlike the later ones that have the bottom crimped on.
