I'm finally getting around to installing the new holley 12-834 (80 gph) mechanical fuel pump, and am now worried that its either defective or I bought the wrong one.

Here is my problem, The current pump stock has fuel in and fuel out return ports with another out that runs to the carb.. simple enough.

The holley on the other hand only has an in and 1 open out with 2 more closed outs I'll post a series of images so you can see what I'm talking about.

Do I have to drill and tap? Or do I have the wrong pump?

This is the right side

Here is the bottom or top as I'm currently calling it, while it still has the cover on it

And the last in this series, this time with the cover removed.

If I drill and tap, which one?

The logical aka easy choice would be to go after the one that partially drilled (sealed) but which would then be used for the carb and which would be for the return line? Or is it the Blocked one that I go after???

I'm confused and lost any help would be appreciated

My brother used a Holley pump like that on a V8 Vega, and if I remember right, he had to seal off one of the Outs w/ a threaded plug. One Out went to the carb, one Out returned to the tank, and the other was an In. Hope this helps!

You might check the Holley Web site to see if there are any diagrams you can access.

Let us hear how it goes!

Bill,

When you do install the pump, what I have found that helps is to put bearing grease around the steel rod that drives the pump so it will stay out of the way while you are installing the pump.

Bill,

Thanks for the advice, but this is a bit unique as only 1 of the 3 outlets is actually open and threaded, I need 2 I tank return I carb.

I did check holley for info, but they offer about as much support as Dr. Ruth, very generalized and all in all not what you were really looking for.

Drilling and tapping doesnt bother me, but if its wrong then I want the right one, and if I have to drill, which one or does it matter?

Bill

I would be afraid to drill and tap to much medal in the fuel system

Its quite easy if done properly.

Tape off everything around the area to be drilled, as you can see from the opened shot its easy to separate the chambers drop in a small rare earth magnet to collect your droppings. Clean up is pretty easy aswell remove magnet and wipe and spray clean.

"T" in the line?

I have been thinking about your fuel pump. If there is only one accessable outlet, could you put a line "T" at the outlet and put your Carb feed to one, and tank return to the other? I am not sure what this would do to your pressure if anything. I Think your only other choice is to drill and tap one of the outlets, or exchange it for another pump.

Bill

You don't need the extra port!

The Holley pump is designed to internally bypass extra fuel to the supply line and doesn't need to be hooked up to a return line. Cap your return line back to the tank and forget about it.
