fuel pump noise?

Hi all,
Since we have had our 02 Coupe, there has been a whine just after starting the engine and it lasts for a few minutes of driving. I asked the service manager to listen to the sound. He told me that is was the fuel pump and that is was normal. Anyone have a similar experience?

HI there,
If you are hearing a whine noise for the first 1-3 mins of starting up the vehicle cold, it is most likely the air injection pump working.
To confirm this, raise the hood, and have someone start the car when it is cold.
Listen for the whining noise, located near the drivers front headlamp.
IF I am correct, this is where you will hear it, but if it is the fuel pump, you will hear that from behind the drivers seat, all the time.

Amazing, I was just about to post an identical message when I came across this thread. My noise starts when the car is first started, lasts about a minute, not constant but off and on and sounds like a dentist drill. Was very worried that my water pump was going. Is that a fair description of the sound you hear? My 2002 has about 900 miles. Thanks for the help on this.

When I checked the noise this morning, it is coming from exactly the area you described, behind the driver's side headlight, so air induction motor it is. Thank you Thank you! I can sleep at night again.
I got the vette bug when I was about 10. Have had a million other things to spend my money on, house, wife, kids, talked myself into and out of one for about the last 10 years, finally at 41, obtained the means to get one, and did so and what is the first thing I do? Listen and wait for something to go wrong. Guess that's just human nature, when you want something so bad and wait so long for it, you just KNOW that something will go wrong. Oh well, human nature, but I must tell you, I LOVE THIS CAR, every time I drive it, I get one of those big grins on my face, worth the wait. Again, thanks for the information.

I've got the constant whine from behind the driver's seat, and it's usually the loudest noise in the car. I haven't taken it in, and don't know whether it's the pump itself or a vibration being amplified by something else.

I'm not looking forward to taking it in for service and discussing how loud is too loud...
