Has any-one ever replaced their fuel sender?
Mine always reads 'E' even after I fill it.
I need info on replacing the fuel senders on my 2002 coupe. Do I have to drain the gas first?
Any help would be appreciated.
Tom.

O Man,that job Inhales, you'll need to purdy much drain both tanks!!!

Here's something to try first!! Go to the parts store and get 2 bottles of Chevron Techron Fuel Injector cleaner, pour them in and fill it up and go for a long drive,My gauge will usually start working again in less than 20 miles!! I run Chevron or Texaco most all the time it has Techron in it,but sometimes when I'm on a trip in other states I can't always find it and gauge will quit after 2-3 tanks!! So I keep 3-4 bottles in the rear compartment of the car and add 1/2 a bottle every couple tanks!!:thumb

I've never had this fail in over 40,000 miles!!:thumb:thumb:thumb

Have you tried a fuel system cleaner such as Chevron Techron? C5s had a lot of problems with their gas gauges traced to the sulfer content (too much) in some gases. A tank or more of premium Chevron could also help. If not then maybe you DO NEED to replace your sender;help

OH BOY!
Sounds like a bigger job then I thought.
How many senders are there if there are two tanks?
Can they be tested first before removing them completely?
Tom.

What is it in the sender that is affected by the sulfur in the gasoline and the antidote Techron?
Tom

HI there
Sulfur contamination of the fuel sender contact card, creates intermittant voltage changes, creating the condition.
Techron fuel system PLUS cleans the sulfur from the card, repairing the system temporarily.
And you need to extract codes to determine WHICH sender is being affected.

Hi.
Thanks for the info.
I just recently purchesed my '02 vette, and haven't had a chance to get an Shop Service Manual.

How can I extract the codes from it?.

My old 90 C4 was easily done, with a paper clip.
Thanks again.
Tom.
