Fuel System Error

I have a buddy with a new C6. His Battery died and ever since he is getting a "Fuel System Error" posted on his DIC. At the same time, when he starts the car the fuel gauge will not register any fuel even with a full tank.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Fuel Sending Unit

This is a very common problem. There is a defect in the FSU card. It is being corroded by fuel additives. There is a service bulletin on the subject.

The fix is a new card which isn't available yet - maybe next month. There have been a number of fixes suggested.
1. Take off the gas cap and put it back on.
2. Only burn premium grade gas 93-94 octane
3. Add Techron fuel cleaner - available at parts stores (even Wal-Mart)
4. Live with it until the fix is available.

I have the problem when it gets hotter than 85 degrees outside. Luckily it has been cooler than that for the past few weeks.

Only burn premium? Im sure thats what most people use in the C6.

You would hope everyone is burning premium fuel but you never can tell. I have had the "SERVICE FUEL SYSTEM" message. I don't have a Chevron station close to my house and was buying a lesser brand. Since the message and researching here at CAC I have made the effort to buy only at the nearest Chevron station which is about 8 miles from my house. Since using the Chevron only, the message only comes on once in a while/ about once a tankful and it seems to be getting better.

Something is strange with this. You SHOULD be able to burn ANY stations premium gas W/O the SFS warning coming on. I know that Techron helps but something else is going on here.

They have not been able to implement a fuel level monitoring/display system that actually works all of the time since the C4.

The C5's have numerous issues with the gauges and in-tank sending units.
