Energy Suspension in Calif.-funny conversation

Ok, Friday I took off work to complete the Poly bushing installation in my control arms. Now they come with a silicone lube for the bushings, where they contact metal, but I was wondering about the lube for the shaft where it contacts the inner bushing. I called Energy Suspension (now since I'm home, it's on my nickle cause they don't have an 800#, at least one wasn't on the box the bushings came in) and asked for the technical department. A fellow answered and I asked was this the Tech dept. He said yes and I proceded to ask him what lube he recommends to lube the control arm shaft. He said duh. I said the control arm shaft. He said "What's that?" I continue and this is a true story. I said the C/A shaft where it contacts the inner sleeve. Believe it or not, he asked his co-worker for help and I could hear this guy say "do you mean the nut?" I told him at this point that I couldn't believe he was in the tech dept. of a company that made bushings and he didn't know what a control arm was. I told me to give me to someone who is better suited to answer a tech question. He transferred me to a voice mail, who didn't identify himself, who said he wasn't at his desk (no poop) and to leave a message. Well, I left the message at 12 noon EST on Friday and I'm still waiting. Now I can't remember if the voice mail said that he would return the message. Maybe he just likes to hear the messages and maybe those folks at Energy Suspension are asking one another what a control arm shaft is. In any event, I put some Amsoil wheel bearing grease on the shaft.

Just another example of what I've been through with so many companies over the last four years.

-call out of the blue...

:confused-Hummmm, --maybe have a bit more patience with folks, perhaps the guy was a dork, or quite possibly he was simply mentally preoccupied, involved in something else that was demanding his attention, -and just need more time to focus upon your particular needs. Believe you should have been more specific about the exact location and function of the questioned component-part, in order to better draw his attention to intelligently respond to your quiry... ~B.vH ;shrug

I told him the Control Arm shaft, you know, "the piece that gets inserted into the inner shaft of the bushing". And believe me, I was patient - until I got transferred and never got called back. He probably was mentally preoccupied, probably trying to figure out how to take his next breath.

I've experienced both the good as well as the bad in going through this round of projects with my Vette. I've had conversations with "technicians" that led nowhere; had telephone and e-mail messages ignored and/or unanswered; been treated like a bum at some shops even though I spent hundreds or even thousands of dollars there; had slipshod work performed by established and "respected" shops and received no help when their work failed; spent untold amounts of money needlessly; and on, and on.

By the same token however, I have had very good experiences with telephone messages returned by Tilton Racing, parts return and exchanges through Summit Racing, help from Lawrence-Keech, Ent. (Side Effects/Power Effects exhaust systems), and quite a few others. They (the aftermarket industry) are not all of them bad companies, but a few could use some help in the experience end of the technical side of the business, and some help in public relations on the other. ;)
