Well my father installed my new master cylineder without the seal I was looking for. Either way. We bled the brakes and I took the car out 'round the block and tested the brakes. First I noticed, in the driveway, what sounded like air being pushed out (vacumn leak?) when I depressed the brake pad. Several times I brought the car up to around 50-55 mph, or so, and pressed the brakes to test them. The car stopped fairly well, but the pedal went all the way to the floor, and it definitely wasn't any firmer since replace the MC. My pedal had been going close the floor, which I understand is not uncommon, but not all the all to the floor. Once the car did seem to get a little loose on the stop. Anyway. In regards to the air sound, which I would assume to be from the power brake unit, would that facilitate replacing/rebuilding the unit? And might the leak have been caused by inadvertantly pulling or turning the rod from the unit when changing the MC? Any other suggestions?

The hiss from the booster should not be loud enough to really hear it inside the car with the engine running. You may very well have a problem.

At the same time it sounds like you still have air in your brakes.

One quick trick. Next time you bleed them, do it with the engine running so you get the benefit of the power assist. It will allow the pedal pumper to get longer deeper strokes without wearing you your leg, or leaving the cylinder not fully depressed.
