Ok, I popped the fused link that goes from the battery to the cooling fan relay. Can you get replacements still and if not what can I do. This link is molded into my + battery terminal connector, so I don't see how you could just "replace it".
And while I'm at it , why would this burn anyway? Are there obvious things to check out before replacing it, so I just don't burn up the new one. Thanks in advance. Oh yeah, It's an 86.

I can't tell you what caused yours to fail, but I can tell you that it is a simple matter of replacing it in kind. It doesn't have to be a GM part. ;)

Thanks Ken, I did find a replacement at O'Reillys. It was that plastic cylinder weatherproof connector thing that had me a little confused. After cutting it out the rest was just basic wiring!!:duh

make sure your fan is not @#$% up. Make sure the relay is OK too.

A fused link doesn't burn up for no reason. Something shorted. Figure out why or it will happen again.

One quick thing to check is the cigarette lighter. Some people keep change in that area, and lose coins fall into it. BZZZT!!!

Since I replaced it I've had no trouble at all. I actually think the insulation around the link wire deteriorated enough for it to be exposed and someway it touched grounded metal. Just a guess though:gap
