Gas Door on a '78

This is something that just hit me! I was shown where to fill the gas tank on the '78 I am planning on buying it is behind the back license plate. But all photos i see show it right behind the rear glass? What is up with that? Someone please help!

I think it's safe to say the '78 has a replacement, non-original gas tank. From a cursory look through my Corvette Central, Eckler's, and Mid America catalogs, it would seem getting a 78-82 gas tank might be a problem. Paragon doesn't list them, either. I seem to recall some earlier posts on this subject, discussing the unavailability of late 70s fuel tanks. In any case, I'm betting the '78 you're looking at has an aftermarket non-original replacement.....

it is for a 1975. Maybe someone knows if it is compatible with a 1978?

I remember reading somewhere when you converted your c3 to a wagon you used a tank from a certain chev car but cant remember which 1,,,,the replacement tank would fill from behind the plate
