I just purchased my Vette - 2001 C5 When I fill my tank all gages work. My gage stops working when my tank reaches the white line level just prior to half way. The check gage (in red) remains visible until my tank reaches the white level just before the half way mark. The vette expert said that to fix this issue they may have to remove the entire back end which I do not want to happen. Should I get a second opinion?

Is there a fix and what is the opinion of this elite community that I have just proudly joined.

Welcome Mystic!

Chevron Techron PLUS concentrate (not the regular techron) cleans the sulfur from the sending unit cards. It's recommended to add it to a partial tank and not fill up until empty. The low mileage may be causing the build up.

I've read that 1999-2002 had erratic fuel gauge problems and that reprogramming the PCM may help.

Thank bwing.

How does one go about reprogramming the PCM, and will it at least help to add the Techron?

Personally, I'd try the Techron first, it's an expensive fix if it works. All the guys on this forum are quite knowledgeable and have given me good information in the past. I would not hesitate to try what they suggest.

I would guess that to reprogram the PCM you'd either have to take it to your dealer or buy a programmer to perform the change.

Maybe c4c5specialist or gmjunkie can help?

Don't hesitate and try Techron, it has worked for many others including myself. If that does not work it will be an expensive fix as you most likely will have get to the tank and as you know it will require extensive dismantling of your car. Good luck, Zig.

Techron

I had the same issue with my Vette when I first purchased it. I didn't add the techron additive, but I did fill up with Chevron Supreme (w/techron) for the next few fill-ups. That did the trick for me. I have used the techron additive in other cars with good results though. Sounds like you're getting a lot of good advice. Fill er up and enjoy that new ride.:Steer
