Scenerio: My gas gauge needle bounces left and right making it difficult to tell what the level is.

I'm thinking Gauge replacement or Float in tank????

Can the tank float be change without removing it from the car???

Check for a loose wire or bad connection first.
Does it bounce when the car is still or all the time?
If not when still, will it bounce if you shake the car?

James,

Probably a loose ground connection. DISCONNECT the battery first and remove the rubber seal around the gas tank filler opening. You should be able to look down and see the wire connections. Check for corroded and loose wires. If it still bounces, you may have to trace the wiring to the gauge itself. And there is still the possibility the sending unit is bad also. Try these options first since they'll cost you nothing but some labor. Having a good VOM meter is also a big help.

Hope this helps.............. Nut

Bouncing Gauge

Thanks for the advice....I will check out the connections.

That would be great if that is it.
