Gas Mileage vs performance

On the way back from the 50th Anniversary deal at Bowling Green, I got an observed 31.7MPG going thru OK on I-40 with the cruise set at 83MPH. Couldn't really believe that so the next tankfull (going into TX) I checked it mathmatically, and the average for 350 miles on that fillup was 29.8 :D

I average 17.5 with my 84 Cross Fire and that is mostly country driving at 50 or less. On the highway I get well over 20. My MPG Calculator is only off by .3 so it is fairly accurate. I do calculate mine the old fashioned way too.

:beer

I reset my avg mpg indicator every time I fill up and with starting it up in the mornings and letting it warm up for a couple of mins and the mostly city driving im doing im getting like around 16.5 mpg. It isn't to bad for a V8, whenever I don't want to use a lot of gas, I just drive my Escort. But since winter is soon approaching im getting all the driving time in I can. I HATE THE SNOW :cry

I got a trip average of 26.2 mpg with my '86 coupe on the 50th Caravan. That included slow driving, lots of idling, highway cruising, some triple-digit sprints coming home and a couple of stoplight drags (at low speeds). Sad to say, I think my Vette gets better overall mileage than my Subarus...

When I'm driving around town, commuting and such, I get about 19 mpg. But I like to have fun...

Are your wheels/tires the stock size? That'll easily mess up your calculations.

I didn't buy the vette for milage, but really impressed with what it does. I had a 98 Riv. with the supercharged 3800 v6, best I ever got was 24mpg.
To have the best of both worlds is really great . Might as well brag about it . :cool :v

Amen brother! My PT Cruiser gets 24.2 mpg on average while my Vette gets 24.4! I've never seen 30 mpg in the Cruiser but I have seen 29.7 in the Vette. I didn't know that I was buying an economy car when I bought my Vette, if I did I wouldn't have waited so long to do it. ;LOL

Justin,

Guy across the street from me drives an Escort ZX2 and he thinks it's fast. ;LOL He thinks because he put a K&N filter on there, changes the oil every 2000 miles (because it's the only thing he knows how to do) and changed the fuel filter, his Escort can take V6's. ;LOL

I whooped him so bad one time that I swore he had the car in reverse. I'm not bragging but he was just talking a bunch of smack and I had to lay it down on him. :D

BTW, I'm only getting 13.8 MPG. I don't drive far enough and I always let the car warm up before I leave. I probably put on an average of about 40 miles a week.
