What a PITA but I got it, as well as a mouth full of sand....:puke

Check this out, neat eh!

Turns out the car was delivered to a dealer about 2 blocks away from me.

You found it on the gas tank ? where abouts and how did you get to it ?
:w

I was underneath doing some cleaning and changing the sway bar bushings when I looked up and between the frontside of the tank and the body there was a piece of paper hanging down, it is glued on. with a long ruler I poked at it (that's when the rip occured and I got a faceful of sand and dirt), I very carefully worked my way along the edge of the glue when all the sudden it was loose and just slid down. There is only about 1/2 an inch or so between the two spaces.

I will try to get a pic of where it is.

OK, heres the pic, please disregard the dirt and rust I am dealing with that know.

It appears the spare tire has to be dropped ? Nowhere on my car can I find any build info. nothing in the back storage compartments or the console. Getting it off the gas tank would save me the 50 bucks to order one. Thanks

:w

Very cool, thanks for the pictures, I'm visual learner. :-)

No problem guys, glad I could help.

And yes you have to remove the spare carrier. And take your time trying to get itoff of the tank, the glue holding it on was really dry and would crack off the tank if you just chip away at the edge.

The glue pattern on mine was right where the cured wrinkle is in the pic as well as two dabs of glue in the tear holes.

From what I see all the info on the build sheet is on the service parts list sticker on the center console door. If it's not there on an 87 the door's been changed.

I don't even want to look for mine so I ordered a 'build sheet' for my car from the NCM (www.corvettemusemu.com). Since I ordered my old '92 new, I have a pretty good idea what is on the build sheet - ditto the 03 AE. Still, having a the build sheet from the car is important, so I got mine from the NCM.

I don't believe the dealer and order # is on the console door.

FYI folks there is also a build sheet, I know for a fact on the '93's, in the front frame rail. This is the frame under the PS unit, front of car engine bay, that has a little round hole in it. You take a needle nose pliers and slowly try to pull it out. It works, I did it! The catch is if you want a 'window sticker' you have to BUY the build sheet from the NCM :mad

Was under mine a couple weeks ago & saw a corner of it..tried to gently give it a pull & about a 2" piece fell off unreadable, I'm amazed yours is in such good shape a Canadian car at that! I live not far away on L.Scugog.

Scugog, aint that far at all, and I was amazed as well that it was in as good a shape, 19 years it's been under there.

It was really dusty but it cleaned up well.

I can see mine on top of the gas tank when I take the back plate off. I can't get it without ripping it though.

the museum website indicates that with a few exceptions in 1982, the only build sheets available through them are the ones from when the bowling green plant opened and there after. that should make it 1981 model year and newer. doesn't do us older guys (78 pace car here) any good. since i haven't had need to replace the tank, and for the most part, the tank stickers usually crumble in your hand on the older models, i guess mine will stay in place for the time being (that's assuming that it is even there, lol).

does anyone have an avenue to get a build sheet for older vettes?? my search of the site only got me to the museum site.

my 79 has b-sheet on the top of the tank - BUT - i found one behind pass side carpet console cover near firewall. Who knows?????

having torn my 78 apart, i can tell you there wasn't one there on mine. i do know they have been known to leave a copy jammed up under the dash or in the seat bottom springs for instance also. if you ever take a door panel off and there seems to be paper scraps in the bottom of the door, that's probably what's left of one of the copies also. to the best of my knowledge, the tank sticker is the only place that they are most consistant with as it is glued to the tank before installation. all the other copies are just kind of jammed someplace as a particular phase of the vehicle build is completed.

I ordered the build sheet and Windowsticker laminated from the Museum in 2002.

but now you guys making me curious and wanting to have to original too.

can I reach it when rear bumper will be removed ? Or should I go under thecar and reach for it.

I think either way it is going to be equally tricky, probly a little easier with the bumper off.

Thanks for that info...I'm gonna check for that next time I'm under the car.
