I have a 2000 and at some point the gas gauge pegged itself at full, when I had 1/4 tank of gas. When I went to fill it, the gas pump at the station kept clicking off. I kept trying to force it, and it overflowed. It took less than 1/8 of a gallon. I tried a different pump and the same thing. I went home and tried to put in gas from a can, and it overfolwed like it was full. Does the gauge have any type of interlock with the tank?? If not, what kind of obstruction could I have in the tank neck or the tank??? I know I have little gas in it, as the information center says I have 180 mile range.
Thx, Ken

You have plenty of gas. The normal failure mode for the sending unit is to peg on full or empty. If you've been running crap gas like Arco, that's probably the cause. Sometimes you can clean out the deposit and everything will be fine.

Try running your fuel level down (go by the odometer, not the DIC). After you've burned off a few gallons, add a can of Techron to the tank. Don't top up, as it will dilute the concentration. Carry a jerry can of fuel if you are nervous about running out. Often, one application of Techron is all it takes.

I know I have little gas in the tank, in as prior to the obstruction problem I had 1/8 of a tank. Now I can not get gas to pump into the tank. Any history of gas tank obstructions/venting on the gas tanks of C-5's??
thx, ken

Did you have a problem with the pump clicking off prematurely, prior to this latest issue? There actually was a problem where the coupling hose was too long, causing it to be partially kinked and resulting in back pressure being seen at the nozzle. If you did have this problem, it's possible that it has now completely kinked.

It's a PITA, but a fairly easy fix. Get the car up on a lift, remove the left rear tire, and then remove the wheel well liner. The flexible hose from the fuel filler will be visible, and it should be obvious if that's the problem. If so, you can either shorten it (if it's still in good shape otherwise), or replace it.

GL!

HI there,

I would be first checking the vent solenoid on the passenger side tank for any blockage.

If the vapors inside the tank cannot vent, it willl NEVER fill correctly.

Do you have any diagnostic trouble codes ????? I am sure there is some type of information there.

Allthebest, c4c5
